Apparently, Viacom is getting SO Hyped Up about Trevor Noah's debut as Jon Stewart's "Daily Show" successor, his Debut Monday night will be airing, in addition to its regular Comedy Central home, on Nickelodeon, TV Land, Epix, VH1 and other Viacom-owned Channels. Trevor Noah, who is aged 31, is a South African stand-up comic born and raised in South Africa to an African Black father and Caucasian mother. |

geez, are they worried that someone might actually want to watch something else during the premiere?
well, I for one won't be watching - I never actually tuned into the daily show with John Stewart (at least not on purpose), so I don't see why I should start now. |

There may be a new host and a brand-new set, but Jon Stewart’s theme song is sticking around, according to the NY Times’ Dave Itzkoff, who attended the final test show. "There is still an opening act in which (Trevor) Noah lampoons the events of the day (in Thursday’s case, Pope Francis’ visit to the United States); in-studio and field segments featuring Daily Show correspondents; and interviews with cultural and political figures, like the test evening’s guest, the CNN host Fareed Zakaria,” he writes. |

I was trying to find something to watch last night at 11pm and saw that this show was on like twenty channels! I figured it must have been his very first show. That's ridiculous to put it on that many channels. I ended up watching The Golden Girls!

After all the talk about the transition, nothing much changed except the host. "Monday’s Daily Show arrived looking more or less (and reassuringly) like itself,” says Hank Stuever. "Same theme song, same desk arrangement; some light housekeeping, such as sprucing up of fonts and colors that make the show look a tad more Indecision 2016 instead of Indecision 2004. The host is a little spiffier too; as he grows more comfortable, he might even learn to laugh less at his own jokes. Then again, that habit — which Noah shares with a few late-night hosts — can also be endearing.” PLUS: Noah handled the show too carefully when he really should be grabbing it and making it his own, Noah was cool and aloof in a Johnny Carson vein, saying “BS” and “sh*t” without bleeping seemed like forced edginess, Noah is more the charming and wide-eyed new kid (with a killer wink) than the jaded but bitingly hilarious host Stewart was, Noah needs to give his audience less of what it wants, Noah lacks Jon Stewart’s edge, new correspondent Roy Wood Jr. was the breakout star, and Noah brought likeability and charm — but does that count for much in our snark-infested social media culture? |

I never watched any incarnation of the Daily Show. I wish Noah well though. I have to say that LOGO simulcasted it. I was thinking between LOGO, TVLand, VH1 etc. why are they doing this? If your going to watch, just go to Comedy Central. They did the same with the VMA's. Very annoying.

Noah’s Daily Show lacks Generation X irony, skepticism and bitterness, and Noah needs to work on his interviews.

All of the Viacom channels simulcasting a show that is meant on only one of those channels = It's getting ridiculous.

The new correspondents are subpar, says Sarah Burris. And Trevor Noah "seems too unsure of himself to let the gestures and silliness fly. It’s as if he has impostor syndrome and won’t try new things for fear of failure. Even his deadpan is off.” |

Last night’s schedule change, in which the controversial singer was dropped following a Daily Beast report of staff dissent over his appearance, wasn’t announced on air. But Comedy Central says it "hopes to reschedule Chris for a future appearance.” Still, as Sonia Saraiya points out, "Chris Brown’s cancelled appearance marks the first time that the Daily Show has revealed possibility of doubt in their anchor since his appointment in March.” These stories of dissension, she notes, usually doesn’t make it out of the building until years later in oral histories or magazine profiles. |

It was unusual to have Stewart back so soon after leaving The Daily Show desk, especially when he could’ve taken his 9/11 first responder cause to other media outlets. |

Since Noah succeeded Jon Stewart in September, the Comedy Central staple has become "something that looks like The Daily Show, that mugs and winks like The Daily Show, but that has only a diluted point of view," says Willa Paskin. She adds: "Noah’s problem is not that he makes bad jokes but that he doesn’t take more chances to make great ones. All bloodless finesse, he never goes for the jugular.” |

The Daily Show host hasn't grown much in the role over the past six months, says Scott Timberg, noting that Noah too often laughs at his own jokes. Noah is silly in a way "that undercuts the seriousness of The Daily Show’s main subject, which, at this point, is an election with real consequences,” says Timberg. "This is, of course, political comedy, and it’s got to balance light with heavy. It can’t be all somber lectures and gloomy analysis. Noah can’t be earnest.” |

Noah’s problem is a lack of urgency and an absence of a strongly defined worldview, says Maureen Ryan. She adds: "Now more than ever, viewers want comedy commentators who not only make sense of the current-events cyclone we’re living in, but who bring an agenda of their own. It’s clear by this point who’s winning and losing the election from a comedic perspective. While Noah complacently floats above the fray, (John) Oliver and (Samantha) Bee sting.” PLUS: It’s time to “#BringBackJon”! |

“We feel like he keeps finding his voice more and more,” Comedy Central programming chief Kent Alterman tells The Wrap, amid concerns that Jon Stewart’s successor hasn’t had a strong election season. “He’s … connecting with our audience,” he says, adding that the Comedy Central bosses have an “incredible amount of confidence in his talent.” John Kasich: Donald Trump is lucky that Jon Stewart isn’t running The Daily Show anymore Speaking on MSNBC this morning about Donald Trump’s recent controversies, the Republican presidential candidate Kasich said: "People around the world must be having a field day, and you know what Donald ought to be happy about is that Jon Stewart’s not running The Daily Show.” PLUS: Trevor Noah responds: "Yes, how lucky for Trump. Though not as lucky as getting to run against John Kasich.#SinceYouMentionedIt" |
