As families grow old, sometimes lives also break into separate pieces, and Life in Pieces is the latest CBS sitcom to follow a family that is growing old both together and apart. The single-camera comedy follows Joan and John Short (Dianne Wiest and James Brolin) as they approach their 70s, and their grown children as they reach milestones in their lives. It's a different type of sitcom that tells four short stories in one episode, each one following one branch of the family tree... in separate pieces.

It is so reminiscent of Modern Family that it already feels stale.” PLUS: It's solidly constructed and gives each actor a modicum of delightful moments, it’s basically a deconstruction of the Modern Family pilot, and it’s best watched while making other plans.

It was average, it wants to be like Modern Family but while MF features three families instead of four like this show it just feels too crowded with the four different plots intertwining.

Truth I'll just keep watching only because I have a crush on Zoe Lister-Jones.

i thought it was actually pretty terrible; it was confusing and painful with no really likable characters and nothing that actually landed as funny or got a laugh, just uncomfortable.

I really like some of the actors in it, but I won't be tuning in again.

I thought it was kind of stupid.

This show is awful and cringe-worthy. This will definitely be one of the first cancellations of the season.

So what are now, 3-4 episodes in and its not really grabbing me, the lead in TBBT must be why it hasn't been pulled from the schedule yet.

Like others mentioned the laughs are not there, its jumbled plots are going left and right with no conclusion to each episode.

I don't like it either. I think CBS invested a lot of money in this show and they are reluctant to pull it. But if the ratings aren't there, they'll eventually have to cancel it, they won't have much choice.

I like it because the four story platform makes it a little different from the standard family-based comedy. The four stories to me means less filler. The only thing I don't like is when they go to commercial and give too much info on the next story. The ratings rose this week so hopefully it stays around for a while.

to me that part seems like a direct rip-off of other shows that used the same format (like Corner Gas and some others that aren't coming to mind), but did it much better - not so confusing and tied it all together better.
