Netflix's "One Day at a Time" Reboot Trailer Released
Norman Lear Updates "One Day at a Time" Reboot – TCA
by Lisa de Moraes August 1, 2015 Norman Lear updated reporters this afternoon on reboot plans for his hit sitcom "One Day at a Time". Lear was at TCA to talk about his profile on PBS’s "American Masters" franchise, in which filmmakers Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady were given unprecedented access to his work and personal archives to track his turbulent childhood through his record-setting TV successes and social activism. PBS says it will air in fall of ’16. Asked if he was interested in, or thought he had the stamina to do another series, the 93-year-old Lear told the woefully out-of-the-know reporter, “We’re talking about doing a Latino version of One Day at a Time – not in Spanish, but in English. That could happen.” Pressed for details about the project, first reported in January, Lear only offered that he’d like the mother to have a son and daughter in the reboot. The original series made stars of Valerie Bertinelli and Mackenzie Phillips, playing the daughters of Bonnie Franklin. Lear also wants a grandmother in the show “so there will be three generations of women,” he said, adding, “I love the idea because I don’t see enough of that on the air any place… and I think it’s a rich idea.” “It is a possibility and in a couple weeks I will let you know if it’s happening,” he said. Asked if he had a cast in mind, he responded, “Yes, but I’m not going to share.” http://deadline.com/2015/08/norman-l...ca-1201489178/ |

"I just love the idea because I don’t see enough of that representation on the air,” the 93-year-old Lear said at the TV press tour. "I don’t see it any place. There isn't enough of it and I think it's a rich idea." |

They did that. It was called Cristela. I liked it but it was cancelled after only a few episodes.

"One Day at a Time" Reboot Ordered at Netflix, Norman Lear on Board as EP
by Michael Ausiello January 11, 2016 This is it. Hold on tight. Up on your feet. "One Day at a Time" is back. Netflix has ordered a 13-episode multi-cam reboot of the classic Norman Lear sitcom, this one centered on a Cuban-American family. Lear is on board as an exec producer of the series, which centers on a recently separated, former military mom (aka the character originated by the late Bonnie Franklin role) navigating a new single life while raising her radical teenaged daughter and socially adept tween son, with the “help” of her old school Cuban-born mom and a friends- without-benefits building manager named — wait for it — Schneider (played in the original by the recently deceased Pat Harrington). According to Deadline, Rita Moreno has signed on to play the grandmother. Additional casting is TBA. Mike Royce (Everybody Loves Raymond, Enlisted) and Gloria Calderon Kellett (How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement) are on board as writers and will serve as EPs alongside Lear, Michael Garcia and Brent Miller. "One Day at a Time" debuted on CBS on Dec. 16, 1975, and ran for nine seasons (until its series finale on May, 28, 1984). It also starred Mackenzie Phillips and Valerie Bertinelli. http://tvline.com/2016/01/11/one-day...n-normal-lear/ |

I could only be interested in a Full House type revival i.e. a reunion of Julie and Barbara. A show in name only doesn't do it for me. Pass.

"One Day at a Time": Justina Machado Starring in Netflix Reboot
by Andy Swift February 22, 2016 Meet the new Bonnie Franklin! Netflix’s Latino reboot of the classic sitcom "One Day at a Time" has tapped Justina Machado (ER, Private Practice) to star as single-mom Penelope, a 2016 version of Franklin’s character from the original series, our sister site Deadline reports. Penelope is described as a “recently separated former military mom” who is struggling to raise her outspoken daughter and “socially adept” son while also running a doctor’s office. Penelope gets some “help” from her Cuban-born mother (Rita Moreno) and her very friendly building manager, Schneider. http://tvline.com/2016/02/22/one-day...eboot-details/ |

I'm just hoping that the original series will be completed on DVD soon. I hope this gets canceled quickly.
