Blind Item Revealed: "Sleepy Hollow", "Bones" Crossover Eyed for Spring

My hotly-debated crossover blind item is a mystery no more. I can now confirm that Fox is planning to stage a crossover event between Thursday companions "Bones" and "Sleepy Hollow" this coming season.

The idea was initially eyed for fall, but logistical issues forced The Powers That Be to postpone it until later in the season.



Specific details surrounding the crossover, including which characters would appear in each episode, are not being disclosed at this time.

But I’m told the EPs at both shows have an inventive idea in place that organically merges the vastly different "Bones" and "Sleepy Hollow" universes.

"Bones", "Sleepy Hollow" Crossover Scares Up Earlier Airdate (Hint: Halloween)

Booth and Brennan will find themselves at the center of a literal ghost story this Halloween.

Fox’s in-the-works "Bones" / "Sleepy Hollow" crossover event — which was slated to roll out later in the season — will now air on Thursday, October 29, TVLine has learned.



Specific details surrounding the crossover, including which characters would appear in each episode, remain under the tightest of wraps. But, as I previously reported, the EPs at both shows have an inventive idea in place that organically merges the vastly different "Bones" and "Sleepy" universes.

Fox declined to comment on this story.



"Bones" and "Sleepy Hollow" kick off their respective 11th and 3rd seasons on Thursday, Oct. 1.

Bones, Sleepy Hollow Crossover Plot Scoop: "It's Like a Great X-Files Episode"

The Bones and Sleepy Hollow worlds will overlap this fall on Fox — and we can finally tell you how those drastically different universes will collide.

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday, the network on Thursday released the following synopses for the Oct. 29 crossover event:




"On Bones, the grisly discovery of human remains lead Brennan and Booth on a hunt for clues, during which they encounter Ichabod Crane and Abbie Mills, searching for answers of their own. Realizing that they are after the same evidence, they team up to solve the mystery."

"Then, immediately following on Sleepy Hollow, the intrigue continues as Ichabod’s old nemesis is back from the dead. Ichabod and Abbie need advanced forensic help and expertise to stop him and turn to Brennan and Booth to unlock 18th century secrets using 21st century science."







In a statement, "Sleepy Hollow" EP Clifton Campbell said,

“When the idea came about to create this crossover event for fans, our writers’ room was immediately energized. The creative freedom to merge these two worlds which, at face value, seem so different; but at their core have such striking similarities – mystery, intrigue and methodical deduction, wrapped up in such strong character partnerships – was a challenge that we all welcomed, and we believe that fans of both series will be very satisfied by the result.

It was a terrific collaborative experience across the board and we are eager to see the fan reaction to Ichabod and Abbie working alongside Brennan and Booth.”

“The Bones-Sleepy Hollow crossover is like a great episode of The X-Files, where the Bones hour is the Scully, logic-based perspective and the Sleepy Hollow hour is more Fox Mulder-esque. Put them together, and it’s going to be a great two-hour event that fans of both programs are going to love.”

We have a photo from Fox’s upcoming Bones / Sleepy Hollow crossover, a two-hour event that finds Brennan, Booth, Ichabod and Abbie collaborating as the discovery of human remains leads to the return of one of Crane’s enemies.





During a recent visit to the set, "Sleepy Hollow" star Tom Mison told TVLine that he and "Bones‘" Emily Deschanel had “just shot this morning a rather nice scene where Ichabod questions Brennan on faith and art and love,” and can they be reduced to numbers?

“It actually worked really rather nicely, ’cause they’re quite similar, actually. I hadn’t really realized it until I started working with Emily, that Brennan and Ichabod are very similar,” he said, laughing.

“Which is probably why they’re destined not to get along.”

Bones / Sleepy Hollow Crossover Photo: Abbie and Booth Get Down to Business

As a follow-up to the Brennan/Crane image we brought you earlier, we’ve got an exclusive shot of Booth and Abbie at work in the Oct. 29 Bones / Sleepy Hollow crossover event.

The two-hour event finds Brennan, Booth, Ichabod and Abbie collaborating as the discovery of human remains leads to the return of one of Crane’s enemies. And from the look on Agent Mills’ face, it appears that maybe she’s a wee bit impatient with the seasoned G-man’s plan.



When Bureau vet Booth meets fresh Quantico grad Abbie, "Bones" star David Boreanaz told TVLine during a recent visit to the set, the situation partly becomes a study in how much Seeley has grown.

“Abbie comes off a bit flying from the hip,” Boreanaz said. “Booth used to come flying from the hip in his early days at the FBI, so he can understand that.”
