I was watching the Oscars last night, and I saw a number of familiar faces, I began thinking how many sitcom stars have an Oscar to their credit.
Let's see, I can think of 5: Ernest Bourgnine Sally Field (2 Oscars) Tom Hanks (2 Oscars) Helen Hunt Ron Howard (2 Oscars) If I left out any names feel free to add to this list: |

Former sitcom stars turned Oscar winners include Patty Duke, Shirley Booth and Donna Reed.
Those who were nominated but didn't bring home the Gold are Doris Day, Mary Tyler Moore, Burt Reynolds, Judd Hirsch, John Lithgow and Rob Reiner. I'm sure I'm missing a few. A good website to find out Academy Award nominations and winners is www.littlegoldenguy.com

Marissa Tomei was in the original cast of A Different World. She left after the first year.
She won her Oscar for her great performance in "My Cousin Vinny". |

St. Elsewhere was a drama not a sitcom. We are only talking about sitcom stars, not actors who starred in dramatic series.
