"The better the TV show, the harder it is to end it," says Lindsey Weber. "This is the lesson of the past decade and a half of high-end TV drama — not least Mad Men, which wraps up seven obsessed-over seasons on Sunday. Anticipation mingled with marketing makes it practically impossible for otherwise good TV shows to live up to the expectations we've created for them." |

While I loved "Mad Men", I do think the series had grown very stale and uninteresting. I continued to watch, just to see what would happen since I was addicted, but the show limped along for the last two years in my opinion. And last night's ending was good...until the whole "Coke" commercial thing. That just destroyed it for me. Kinda corny.

I think this explains how CBS refused to cancel the original CSI without giving it a proper farewell episode (in the form of a TV movie, anyway). CSI went from the #1 show in early 2005 to the bottom of the ratings in early 2015.
I think the bigger the legacy of a "great" TV show, the harder it will be to bring to a close that "great" TV show's run. |
