Default The Creator Of ‘Fresh Off The Boat’ Refuses To Watch The Show

http://uproxx.com/tv/2015/04/the-cre...atch-the-show/

Quote:
Eddie Huang, upon whose memoir (and life) the ABC sitcom Fresh Off the Boat is based, has always had a complicated relationship with the show. I recall that, before the show premiered, Huang was on Joe Rogan’s podcast with series star Randall Park (who plays the Dad) talking about developing the series. Huang basically suggested he thought his memoir was so authentic, so real, and so personal about the way he grew up in the 90s — and how he used hip hop to survive a dark childhood — that ABC would never sugarcoat the series or water it down.

He quickly learned otherwise, and as Park said in that podcast, he ended up brokering much of the conversation between Huang and the network, as the two sides disagreed about everything. Huang, however, reluctantly did the voice-over narration and agreed to help promote the series, although he did not, himself, hold back, basically calling a reporter racist at one point, and at another point, going on a tirade about a racist marketing campaign for the series on Twitter, calling the guy behind the tweet a “mouth-breathing psycho.”

But here’s the wrinkle: While Fresh Off the Boat does a very poor job of reflecting Eddie Huang’s experiences growing up in Florida, it’s still a very good, very cute family sitcom (with one of the most outstanding sex talks you’ll ever see on TV).

That, apparently, is not enough for Huang, who still — justifiably — feels burned by the series, and he admitted in a series of tweets that he doesn’t even watch the show.

i really like the show, but I can understand how the guy feels stabbed in the back.

honestly though - would you really expect anything less from a bunch of Hollywood producers? Even if the memoir had been a perfect adaptation, they still would have said - "hey, the show is perfect, but we still need to betray you in every way imaginable, because otherwise it makes us look like we aren't total douc.hebags, and we have a reputation to maintain."

Default Eddie Huang should quit whining about Fresh Off the Boat

http://www.sltrib.com/entertainment/...-huang-betrays

Nobody forced the chef to profit off his memoir by selling the sitcom rights "Huang has been all about Huang since before the show debuted, trying to reinforce his own street cred by dissing the show and its producers/writers," says Scott D. Pierce, who adds: "Huang is having a fit of ego because he regrets the decision to make a bunch of money from his book." PLUS: Fresh Off the Boat pays homage to Margaret Cho's All-American Girl.

Default Fresh Off the Boat has a lot in common with Margaret Cho's All-American Girl

Just like Cho hated the ABC sitcom based on her life, Eddie Huang despises the ABC sitcom based on his memoir.

It would ha e been nice if the show was actually filmed in Orlando at Disney instead of in LA

Default Fresh Off the Boat boss: Chef Eddie Huang has a "complicated history" with the show

http://www.vulture.com/2015/04/fotb-...e-ratings.html

As the groundbreaking Asian-American comedy ends its first season, executive producer Nahnatchka Khan talks about the reaction in the Asian-American community, how she's learned to write for her actors and Huang, who keeps bashing the show. "Eddie has had a complicated relationship with the show," she says, "something he's been very clear and open about from the beginning. And he continues to have a complicated relationship with it. But something that we've been very clear and open about from the beginning is that the show is not a documentary or a biopic. The TV Huangs are fictionalized; they do and say things that the real Huangs never did or said. Regardless, we all wish Eddie well." PLUS: FOTB shouldn't have to make everybody happy, a watered-down minority narrative doesn't have to be less important, and Eddie Huang will be on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday.

The creator of one of the bigger hits on ABC not named Shonda feels like the network has really morphed the show into something he does not recognize. He said he never thought it would happen but this A- list comic actress who had a similar type show says she told him from day one what would happen and to not sign with the network if he was not prepared for it. Eddie Huang ("Fresh Off the Boat")/Margaret Cho ("All American Girl")

I am glad they went in the direction they did,the kid who plays Eddie is the clear weak link in the show.

Also, I watched his episode of him being in Orlando on YouTube and he and his brothers got all excited about the house and their father spanked them and told them that it wasn't theirs it was his and he worked for it. The dad on the show is a lot cooler than the real life Louis.
