Exclamation Update: "Fuller House" Picked Up by Netflix

"Full House" Reunion Series "Fuller House" Nears 13-Episode Netflix Order
by Michael Ausiello
April 2, 2015

Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there’s a… classic TV series being reborn. And TVLine can exclusively confirm that the revival craze has extended to the Tanners of San Francisco.

According to sources, Netflix is thisclose to ordering "Fuller House", a 13-episode multi-cam continuation of "Full House" to star Candace Cameron Bure as D.J. and Andrea Barber as her BFF Kimmy.

Fellow "Full House" vets John Stamos, Bob Saget and Dave Coulier are being eyed to make guest appearances, with Stamos having a producer role, as well.

The project is being shepherded by the original show’s creator, Jeff Franklin, who will exec-produce alongside Thomas L. Miller and Robert L. Boyett (both of whom also EP’d the original).

Reps for Netflix and Warner Bros. declined to comment for this story.

Looks like shows are being revamped...

I wonder if there'll be a newer version of FOL?

This is the most obvious idea for a sequel series ever.

Kind of surprised it took this long.

Default Why Netflix's Full House revival is woefully misguided

http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/...orst-nostalgia

Some reboots are worthy, some aren't. Full House is low-hanging fruit, especially for a streaming service that has made bold artistic choices, says Joanna Robinson. "It's snobby to deem one kind of comedy (Wet Hot American Summer and Mr. Show) as worthy of a reboot, and dismiss others as beneath Netflix's dignity," she says. "But there has to be a difference between giving vital and somewhat under-seen comedic talents like (Bob) Odenkirk, (David) Cross, Michael Showalter, David Wain, and even Paul Reubens a larger platform to play on, and resurrecting cultural behemoths that, if looked at through nostalgia-free lenses, didn't really contribute much culturally in the first place." PLUS: Let's not forget that Full House was intended for young children, and 5 things that have to happen on Fuller House.

Default ‘Full House’ Was A Bad Show, So Please, Don’t Make That Spinoff

Full House premiered on Sept. 22, 1987 in what now looks like a conspicuous night of television. Following Full House was another new situation comedy, titled I Married Dora, which is best known (if known at all) for breaking the fourth wall during its 13th and final episode, announcing that they had been canceled directly to the audience.

I Married Dora was followed by the better remembered, but almost equally as short-lived Max Headroom.

Sadly, Full House lasted longer than 13 episodes and, now, is reportedly coming back as a Netflix series titled Fuller House. Why is this happening? Who really wants more Full House? Is it for the GIFs? My prediction is that if a new Full House happens, it will be the most heavily GIFed, but least watched show in television history.

The original Full House was about a San Francisco widower named Danny Tanner who recently lost his wife to a drunk driver. This is an extremely dark way to set up the premise for what become one of the most lighthearted, in the worst way, situation comedies of all time. Bob Saget plays Danny, a comedian and actor who has gone well out of his way to prove how “dirty” he is in real life. Tanner enlists his brother-in-law, Jesse (John Stamos, who had just come off the ill fated You Again? opposite Jack Klugman) and friend Joey (Dave Coulier) to help raise his three daughters: D.J. (Candice Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), and Michelle (Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, both playing the same person).

Over the course of 192 excruciating episodes, we’d watch as these characters went on Star Search and met The Beach Boys. There is absolutely nothing noteworthy about Full House, and I’ve watched a lot of bad television that I will at least try to partially defend. I was 13 when Full House premiered and, even then, it was the television equivalent of Playskool.

I partially understand the nostalgic draw of Saved By the Bell — an equally bad television show — because (A) at least it was about kids in high school and (B) it reminds people of the greatest part of the week for anyone that age, Saturday morning. Again, I promise, you would not want to go back to that time period, you’d be driven to insanity by boredom. But, I at least understand the appeal at least a little bit. What’s the appeal of Full House? “Ah, yes, the great memories of when Danny Tanner’s wife was killed by a drunk driver, then we all laughed a lot for eight years.” Yes, everyone on the internet got nostalgic about the Saved by the Bell reunion on The Tonight Show, but so what? It’s a comedy sketch. No one is bringing Saved by the Bell back. (At least, not yet.)

But, here we are with Full House. The weirdest thing is that the people who seem to like Full House the most weren’t really old enough to be watching primetime situation comedies when Full House premiered. Somehow, Full House became a current internet darling though reruns. (Friends has a similar arc: the people who didn’t watch it during its original run seem to be its loudest supporters.) I will concede that if it wasn’t for the current popularity of Full House, I may just regard it as a show that I don’t have much of an opinion on one way or another. But a possible Fuller House just feels like the nostalgic final straw. (“Ah, remember when we drew that final straw? Remember how great life was then? We should really reboot that final straw.”)

Again, I have a hard time believing that any adult who says they like Full House actually enjoys watching Full House as either a subjectively “good” show or even as some sort of guilty pleasure comfort food. Seriously, go watch an episode, a full episode. I tried this the other day, and I lasted about eight minutes. But that’s Full House and nostalgia in a nutshell: It’s sometimes nice to smile about, but I promise that you do not want to relive it. I do not care what became of D.J. Tanner and Kimmy Gibbler, but we’re probably going to find out. Full House was a terrible show and we’re probably getting more. Heck, we probably deserve more. This is our punishment. We all brought this all on ourselves. Maybe this is “Mr. Trivia”’s true revenge.

This is practically the most hoped for reunion next to other shows such as Family Matters and The Cosby Show.

What I think is it could go any way with the story.

Is Jodi Sweetin going to be on the cast?

My guess is if it's about DJ and Kimmy it will be the following:

1. DJ is raising her kids with Kimmy who lives in the house as well. DJ is married to Steve, but he's away making films. Remember, he LOVED filmmaking. I think he became a BIG director and is away for months and months directing something in China or overseas. So my guess is we see DJ on the phone/computer with him, even if they show him onscreen, but he's not in town/in the house. This would be the BEST way to make DJ married to Steve, but make it so that he's away from the family for a reason.

2. DJ is widowed and Steve is dead. Kimmy helps to raise her kids. This would be sad. I'd rather go with number 1.

3. DJ and Steve Divorced and Kimmy helps to raise her kids.

4. If Scott Wiegner is up to doing it, Steve will be at the house, too, raising his kids with DJ and Kimmy lives there with her kids and is divorced.

In each situation, Kimmy will most likely be divorced as well and have kids of her own that she's raising.

But who's with me with Steve being away directing stuff? If they want to make it so DJ has no husband around, this would be the best way to do it. It would be harsh to say they divorced or he's dead or she married someone else who died/divorced her. Steve and DJ were end game.

‘Fuller House’ On Netflix: 5 Things That Have To Happen

1. DJ and Steve are married with children.

Yep, I’ve been shipping DJ and Steve (Steve Weinger) since I was a child. After their amazing reunion in the series finale when he showed up to take her to prom, their romantic fate was pretty much sealed. I imagine these two made it work throughout college and eventually had a crazy wedding in San Francisco. Now, they have three kids and are living in DJ’s childhood home.

2. DJ and Kimmy are still next door neighbors.

Honestly, I don’t know if I could handle DJ and Kimmy living in the same house, so the BFF’s remaining next door neighbors seems like the perfect fit. Obviously, DJ and Kimmy’s daughters are best friends, and we’ll get to see their best friendship evolve over the course of Fuller House.

3. Joey finally settled down and had kids of his own.

I always knew Joey (Dave Coulier) would make a great dad, and I was kind of bummed that we never got to see Joey have kids. Fuller House would be the perfect opportunity to see Joey as the dad he was destined to be.
Are you excited about a 'Full House' spinoff?

4. Jesse hit the big time in music, and he and Becky took Hollywood by storm.

Jesse always wanted to be a rock star, and he had the talent to do it. In my mind, after the twins got a little older, Jesse finally got his big break. Jesse and Becky decided to move down the California coast with the twins. Jesse had a best-selling album, and Becky ended up on some Good Morning America-type show.

Even though John and Lori Loughlin aren’t together in real life, there’s no doubt in my mind that Jesse and Becky’s marriage stayed strong amidst the fame and fortune.

Also, Jesse and Becky found the fountain of youth on their journey because THEY HAVE NOT AGED.

5. Michelle Tanner makes a surprise appearance.

I know this is a long shot, but it has to happen. Michelle Tanner was an essential part of Full House, and Fuller House wouldn’t be complete without her. I think Mary Kate and Ashley cane come out of hiding (and those massive coats) for an epic little guest spot.

There are so many more things that I feel should happen on Fuller House, but these are my top picks. And, no, I haven’t forgotten about Danny (Bob Saget) and Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin), y’all! I’m sure they’ll show up at some point on this sure-to-be hit show!

What I want to know is why it can't be on a normal TV station like it used to be. I may be in the minority, but I would love for Michelle to be shown at least one time on the new show since she was a big part of the original cast and I would be OK with just one of the twins playing her if both are not possible.

God bless you and Mary-Kate and Ashley always!!!

Holly (a day one fan of them)

I wonder if Candace Cameron is going to make the writers and producers shoehorn in her religious beliefs (she isn't as nutty as her big brother Kirk, but she's none-the-less pretty "out there") like she did on Make It or Break It.

The religious stuff could turn a lot of people off. I will say how can this show succeed if Danny, Jessie and Stephanie and Michelle are not even in it?

She did that on Make It or Break It? I knew her character was religious but she made the producers include religious stuff in it.
