Default BREAKING: Craig T. Nelson to Reprise ‘Coach’ Role in NBC Sequel Series

Quote:
“Coach” is coming back — yes, that Coach.

Craig T. Nelson is set to reprise his role as Coach Hayden Fox in a sequel series, given a 13-episode straight to series order at NBC, Variety has learned. The project will pick up 18 years after the original comedy went off the air.

Debuting in 1989, “Coach” spanned nine seasons on ABC and ran for 198 episodes. Nelson, who’s freshly coming off NBC’s family drama “Parenthood,” was nominated for a Golden Globe for his starring role and won the Emmy for best comedy actor in 1992.

NBC’s revival of the original series will be set in present day with Hayden Fox retired from coaching. He is called back home to become assistant coach to his grown son who is the new head coach at an Ivy League school in Pennsylvania that is just starting up a new team.

Nelson’s on-screen son, nor any additional cast members, have been announced.

The creator of “Coach,” Berry Kemp, will write the series and serve as an exec producer, along with Nelson. The multi-cam comedy is produced by Universal Television.

NBC’s “Coach” sequel series has no set air date. ICM Partners packaged the project.

Nelson is repped by Paradigm, and Kemp is repped by ICM Partners and Bill Jacobson.

Michael J. Fox made a return to TV but it failed
David Duchovny (Fox Mulder) is returning with The X-Files
Craig T. Nelson (Hayden Fox) is returning with Coach

^Yeah, but it wasn't like they were doing nothing in the meantime...

Duchovny was on Showtime's "Californication" and Nelson did NBC's "Parenthood".

Good point but with the Fox connection there was no way I could resist.

Maybe this will cause the remaining seasons of "Coach" to get released soon!

How did it last 9 seasons? jesus christ that's insane, was the show ever among the top-20 programs? I think Family Matters in it's waning days had better numbers than Coach.

The first couple of years I thought it was OK, but lost interest aftere that. Subsequent attempts to view it in recent years made me wonder why I liked it at all. I can't imagine there is much demand for this update, but nothing about TV in the modern age makes any sense, so who knows?

Questions:

1. Where is the really annoying daughter? Sorry, but that girl was sooooooo annoying, couldn't stand the actress or her character.

2. Who is this mystery son? Did he and the Shelly Fabres character have a kid together? Even if so, the son would only be in his 20's.
