‘Empire’ Beats Out ‘The Walking Dead’ To Become The Most Tweeted-About Show

When in season, The Walking Dead is the No. 1 show on TV across just about every demographic and measurement imaginable. So, given that, when a new show comes along that’s able to topple it somehow, the news is met with a high degree of shock. Today, that news involves the biggest new show of the broadcast season, Empire.

The report goes on to say the show sees an average of 451,270 tweets per episode. The Walking Dead has averaged 444,029 tweets per episode.

In recent years, Twitter has become a major player for networks ever since Nielsen started tracking statistics. Most of all, Twitter seems to be a good indicator of word of mouth. If this many people are talking about Empire online while it is airing, it’s safe to assume there are that many more not tweeting because they’re too engaged to do so.

In addition, according to Variety, the show’s latest episode also became its most watched with ratings of 14.92 million viewers overall. The episode also matched its series 18-49 high score of 5.8 from last week. Given current trends, next week’s two-hour finale should be the series’ most viewed episode when all is said and done.
