He was the man in this great show! I recently discovered it on Encore Westerns channel daily at 6:00 pm central time. In terms of great old western tv shows, I rank this one way up near the top along with Cheyenne, Lawman, Have Gun Will Travel and Rifleman.
McQueen was young when this show ran (1958-1961) and quite a good actor even then. |

I've got the series on DVD, one of my favorite western series.

I got the DVDs when they were first released by a season at a time.. I got season 1 and 2 and kept waiting for season 3.. Eventually they sold a box set of the entire series so I bought it... The single seasons look a million times better.. Less compression or whatever...

I heard he got sick of the series after a few seasons and tried to get himself fired from the show. He was very angry when he was told he wasn't allowed to leave the show.

I have just tuned into the show. I was Dvr it but decide to see it on Demand. Only a half hour which is good. Interesting to see guest stars. Saw Alan Hale Jr in an early first season episode.

Steve McQueen's military service helped him foresee the rise of the anti-hero
He predicted audiences' shifting tastes. |

Steve McQueen helped create the memorable Mare's Leg gun in ''Wanted: Dead or Alive''
The firearm helped distinguish this show from the rest. |

Before His Movies, Steve McQueen’s Big Break Came In This Forgotten TV Western
Steve McQueen is best-known for classic movies like The Great Escape and Bullitt, but the role that made him was in a TV Western in the late 1950s. |
