Kelly Osbourne Exits "Fashion Police" — Read E! Network's Official Statement

It appears Kelly Osbourne has made good on her threat to depart E!’s "Fashion Police". The network on Friday released the following statement, confirming that Kelly will not appear on the next episode, airing next month:

"Kelly Osbourne is departing E!s “Fashion Police” to pursue other opportunities, and we would like to thank her for her many contributions to the series over the past five years, during which time the show became a hit with viewers. “Fashion Police” will return, as scheduled, on Friday, March 30th at 9:00 p.m. and no decisions have been made on her replacement."



Earlier this week, the co-host tweeted her frustration about the show after pal Zendaya Coleman was offended by Giuliana Rancic’s joke about her smelling like marijuana at the Oscars.

Osbourne appeared to calm down — at least publicly — following Rancic’s on-air apology.

I don't think Kelly's heart was in doing Fashion Police anymore so I'm not surprised she's left the show. She seemed to have a great relationship with Joan and it probably wasn't the same for her to do the show without her. I think Kelly saw this whole controversy with Zendaya as the perfect time to quit. I think the timing of her quitting is convenient -- after the Oscars and before the next FP show in March.

Kelly Osbourne addressed her decision to leave "Fashion Police" while co-hosting "The Talk" on Tuesday.

“It was the five best working years of my life. I am so grateful for the experience. Working with Joan Rivers for five years was incredible. I learned so much. I’m excited for my future now. I want to try new things.”

Following Kelly Osbourne's exit from "Fashion Police", new host Kathy Griffin has decided to leave as well. She released a statement on Twitter:













E! network also released a statement:

"We can confirm that Kathy Griffin is leaving E!'s 'Fashion Police'. We wish her all the best and are grateful for her time on the show, as well as the many laughs that she gave us all.

'Fashion Police' will return as scheduled on Monday, March 30 at 9pm with our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski and Executive Producer Melissa Rivers. No further information is available at this time."

The email, obtained by Buzzfeed, explains the mass celebrity support for Griffin for leaving Fashion Police: I'm reaching out to you because I think you will understand why I have made this decision and I am asking for your support via Twitter, etc," she wrote. "IF you are comfortable. I admire you & your work and hope that you can stand by me." PLUS: TMZ also says producers considered firing Griffin, she wasn't a perfect fit on the show.

Kathy Griffin Surprised By Furor over "Fashion Police" Exit; E! Mum On Replacement

In her first public comments since her Tweeted departure from E!’s "Fashion Police", Kathy Griffin expressed surprise that her exit had blown up into such a big deal Friday night at a comedy concert in Waterbury, Conn.

“It just didn’t work out. That’s it. That’s the Scandal,” Griffin told the audience in a video acquired and posted by TMZ. Griffin also did a funny imitation of Cher, who she said called her about the so-called brouhaha.

“I just am surprised that people are so invested in this show,” Griffin said. “But I shouldn’t be because the late Joan Rivers was so incredible and amazing, and it just wasn’t the right thing for me.”





Meanwhile, E! has been silent on future replacements for Griffin and Kelly Osbourne.

The rumor mill has featured Khloé Kardashian, NeNe Leakes and Naya Rivera as people being looked at.

Kathy Griffin on "Fashion Police" Exit, Lena Dunham’s Support

Kathy Griffin elaborated on her "Fashion Police" exit on Howard Stern's SiriusXM's radio show. She said that Melissa Rivers, Joan Rivers' daughter, had approached her to join the show following her mother’s death. Griffin said Rivers told her that she was the only person that “her mother would truly have given her blessing to” and sealed the deal for Griffin to join the show.

She was honored to be approached to take over the show, but said looking back that she “probably shouldn’t have taken the gig” since it didn't really fit her style.



Griffin also denied reports to Stern that there was friction between her and former co-host Kelly Osbourne.

Osbourne exited the show shortly after co-host Giulana Rancic made what many considered racially insensitive comments about Zendaya Coleman’s dreadlocks at the Oscars.



Griffin also gave a shout-out to Lena Dunham, saying she reached out to the "Girls" creator and star asking for help in crafting the statement announcing her "Fashion Police" exit that she posted on Twitter.

“She helped me tremendously,” said Griffin.

"Fashion Police" Put on Extended Hiatus in Wake of Controversies, Exits

The other Jimmy Choo has dropped.

In the wake of two successive, noisy exits that depleted "Fashion Police‘s" rejiggered panel by half, E! has put the snark-on-the-stars series on an extended hiatus, The Hollywood Reporter reports.



"Fashion Police" will return with a retooled cast — Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski are expected to stay on — sometime in the fall, in time for the Primetime Emmys (to be held Sept. 20).

The three episodes slated to be taped this spring, without either Kelly Osborne or Kathy Griffith, have been scrapped.

Gawker's Defamer is also reporting that Griffin was about to be fired when she opted to quit. As Rich Juzwiak puts it, "She alienated her co-panelists, demanded the termination of some of the show's longtime employees, and was otherwise 'obstinate'—and her current redemption tour is face-saving attempting, something seemingly corroborated in her email plea for a public showing of support from her celebrity friends over her supposedly brave decision to exit the E! staple."

That sound you hear is yet another pile of, well, something hitting the fan at "Fashion Police".

Melissa Rivers lashed out this week at the way comic Kathy Griffin, who replaced Rivers’ late mother Joan as host on E!’s red-carpet commentary show, exited the series after just seven episodes.



“She kind of s–t all over my mother’s legacy in her statement on leaving. And I know that was not an intentional reading of it, but that’s how I felt,” Rivers, who also serves as executive producer of E!’s red-carpet commentary show, said during a Q&A session to promote her new memoir at Manhattan’s 92nd Street Y.

“Everything was so heightened and everybody was so crazy, but that was my takeaway.”






"Fashion Police" also drew fire in February for co-host Giuliana Rancic’s joke about actress Zendaya’s hair — a kerfuffle that eventually led to co-host Kelly Osbourne’s decision to quit the show.

“Just like a family, when the matriarch dies, the sisters started fighting, someone tried to marry in, not a great match, live and learn,” Rivers said in assessing "Fashion Police‘s" less-than-ideal 2015.

Rivers said she has just recently begun “creative meetings” to “reformat” the show, and added that she imagined her mother having “a little bit of twinkle in her eye” looking down on the show’s woes and grumbling, “You couldn’t do it without me, could you?”

Sound the fashion alarm! E!'s "Fashion Police" will be returning later this summer with Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa as co-host alongside Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski.

Says Rivers, “I’m very excited to be given the opportunity to continue to work with my E! and Fashion Police family.”

The style-centric series will return with new episodes on Monday, Aug. 31.
