Default Giuliana Rancic apologizes after Zendaya accuses her of racism over Fashion Police re

http://www.dailydot.com/entertainmen...hair-comments/

The "K.C. Undercover" wrote a letter to the E! star after Rancic said her dreadlocked hair looks like it "smells of patchouli oil… maybe weed." Rancic responded on Twitter: "Dear @Zendaya, I'm sorry I offended you and others. I was referring to a bohemian chic look. Had NOTHING to do with race and NEVER would!!!"

how is that racist? - white dreadlocks are just as bad as any other color

...Zendaya's probably weren't real anyways, so this is all nonsense.

maybe Juliana Rancic is just upset because they trash her on The Soup every week about her bathroom habits...

Giuliana Rancic Makes Somber On-Air Apology to Zendaya Coleman Over Dreadlocks Comment
by Natalie Stone
2/24/15

"Fashion Police" host Giuliana Rancic dedicated time during Tuesday's "E! News" news to offer a public apology to Zendaya Coleman about a comment she made about the Disney star's dreadlocked hair at the Oscars.

Rancic made the below statement at the wrap of Tuesday's show:

"I'd really like to address something that is weighing very heavy on my heart. I want to apologize for a comment that I made on last night's 'Fashion Police' about Zendaya's hair.

Now, as you know, 'Fashion Police' is a show that pokes fun at celebrities in good spirit, but I do understand that something I said last night did cross the line. I just want everyone to know, I didn't intend to hurt anybody, but I've learned it is not my intent that matters — it's the result and the result is people are offended, including Zendaya, and that is not OK.

Therefore, I want to say to Zendaya, and anyone else out there that I have hurt, that I am so so sincerely sorry. This really has been a learning experience for me –I've learned a lot today – And this incident has taught me to be a lot more aware of clichés and stereotypes —how much damage they can do.

And that I am responsible, as we all are, to not perpetuate them further. Thank you for listening.

Default The View's Nicolle Wallace: Giuliana Rancic failed at trying to be Joan Rivers

http://deadline.com/2015/02/nicolle-...rs-1201381187/

"If you have to carry on a show in her tragic absence, you have to understand that you are not Joan," Wallace said on this morning's show. "You don't get to say this stuff and get away with it."

Giuliana made dumb comment, she apologized on twitter and on the air, I think it should be over and done with.

Giuliana Rancic Claims "Fashion Police" Zendaya Comment "Was Not Edited in the Proper Way"
by Hilary Lewis
4/6/15

Giuliana Rancic continued to defend herself following the controversy over her joke about Zendaya's red-carpet look at the 2015 Oscars.

In an interview on Monday's "Today" show to promote her new memoir, Going Off Script, Rancic insisted she wasn't racist but claims that the "editing" of her comments turned what she said into an offensive soundbite.

"It's something I want to be really clear about what happened because I've never really spoken out about it. I made a reference to the hippie culture. I talked about patchouli oil, which is a hippie perfume, and in the editing process, some of the gestures I made, some of the things I said were taken out for time. I made peace signs. I said 'bohemian' twice. Those were taken out for time. So when the joke aired, some people were offended by it."

She added: "I find racism reprehensible. I don't tolerate it at all nor have I ever. And I think that's really important for me to get that out there, because that's been the hardest part of all of this is that someone could believe that I have racial undertones in the things that I do. Absolutely not. I see why people took offense. I thought the joke was not edited in the proper way. And that's just something I have to live with."

Zendaya Talks Crafting "Fashion Police" Response: "I Had to Stop Myself from Being Ignorant and Being a Kid"
by Hilary Lewis
4/22/15

Zendaya made headlines recently when she criticized "Fashion Police" host Giuliana Rancic's comment that the dreadlocks Zendaya wore to the Oscars make her look like "she smells like patchouli oil and weed."

The Disney Channel star took to Instagram to defend her hairstyle, crafting an eloquent statement in which she called Rancic's comment "outrageously offensive" and cited others with dreadlocks including Selma director Ava DuVernay, author Terry McMillan and "many other men women and children of all races."

"My wearing my hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough," she wrote. "To me, locs are a symbol of strength and beauty, almost like a lion's mane."

Her remarks and the ensuing controversy ultimately led to a videotaped apology from Rancic, which Zendaya accepted.

Appearing on "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, 18-year-old Zendaya explained how she was able to respond the way she did.

"At that point it wasn't really about me. I had to stop myself from being ignorant and being a kid," she said. "As a teenager you want to say the first thing that comes out of your mouth, and I had to really take my time and think about what my parents taught me, which is the most important things in the world are your voice and your knowledge, being that they're both educators. So I sat in my room and I used both of those things."

She hopes that her remarks inspired her young fans to "stand up for themselves."

"Hopefully whether it be a little girl out there or a young man out there who was able to read that and see positive change and be able to stand up for themselves in any kind of incident in their lives, then I did what I'm supposed to do," she added.

Zendaya also talked about what led to her co-producing her new Disney Channel series "K.C. Undercover".

"When I came back to the Disney Channel, I had a vision of what I wanted and I wanted to bring back that old school Disney Channel flavor and really do something that is mature and edgy in the right way," she said. "I'm really glad I'm in a space where I can do that and I can have a voice and I'm heard and I'm listened to and it's awesome."
