McDermott, like all Middle stars, doesn't have a contract for next season, so he was free to take on the role of "a meek, unassuming fast-food worker who finds his calling." |

I hope that doesn't mean the end of the show. If he goes to this Clyde show full time, and at the same time says goodbye to "The Middle" for good, they could write him out and refer to him and have him phone home as a way to keep Axl on the show.
Of course, a few guest appearances wouldn't hurt. |

If the "Super Clyde" pilot is picked up to series for next season, then I could see Season 7 of The Middle announced as its last. Also, I was thinking about The Middle moving to a different timeslot next season, either on Fridays or on Tuesdays. After having been aired in the same timeslot (Wednesday @ 8) for five-and-a-half years, would the ABC Network want to move The Middle to a different timeslot for just a final season? If it's successful in that new timeslot (whatever that is), we'd end up seeing a Season 8 of The Middle, LOL.

The Middle is a very good TV show, but its ran out of gas. A lot of this season were not that watchable, and I turned several of them off before the end of the episode. The kids are older, and I don't think the show quite knows what to do with them now.
The show to me has more or less "Jumped the Shark". Not giving up on it yet, but I can foresee just one more year and then the end. |

I've enjoyed The Middle and would like it to have a final season.
With less Axl on the show, there could be more appearances by Sue's and Brick's friends. |

I was anticipating a Season 7 with Sue being accepted into the same college as Axl. They could build up story lines around that. I have to agree sadly that the show has taken the characters about as far as they could extend the series. Too many guest stars are moving away from the classic family conflict that made the first four to five seasons among the best shows of the modern era. I really did not care for "Two of a Kind." with Dick and Jerry Van Dyke guest starring. YUCK! I am noticing more episodes with a "Too nice" ending. Axl and Sue in liking each other situation's. Mike becoming more sociable, moving away from Neil's great low-key anti-social character acting. I think they should do a season with Sue and Axl situations at college, but than it may be time to call it a wrap. Charlie is a great actor and cool person, so if he gets picked up for another series, that could be it. Or they could have Axl away at college more. Doing two sitcoms at once might be stressful for him. The show is not as funny as in the past. Jack |

CBS passed on Super Clyde so presumably Axl stays on The Middle. The pilot options don't expire until the end of June so CBS could still take it later but if it's not picked up by upfronts it's usually a pass.

"It was a trauma when we were all going through it, but it’s quite beautiful the way that worked out,” exec producer Eileen Heisler says of McDermott being cast on CBS’ Super Clyde. "The Middle is a family, and as a family, we all worked through it, and I think if anything it’s kind of like we returned with a newfound joy in being together. So, no, it’s been perfect." |

I think The Middle could easily go another season before a wrap-up.
Actually I'd like to see more of Sue and Brick, along with their friends. And this could give the show a chance to introduce a new character -- maybe a foster child. |

I was worried that Season 7 of The Middle would end up being its last one because of Charlie McDermott signing up for a pilot for CBS (Super Clyde) which never got a series order. Now that The Middle's ratings are still above average (2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.5 million viewers, about the same as Season 6), could there realistically be an 8th season of The Middle?
Also, at the beginning of the season, I was actually expecting The Muppets (which currently airs on Tuesdays) to succeed so it could take The Middle current timeslot after The Middle ended, but The Muppets ended up being a ratings failure; It premiered with strong ratings, but they have dropped over 50% since then and is narrowly being beaten by Fresh Off the Boat (its lead-out). |

Yikes! That is one of The Middle's best episodes. Dick and Jerry rarely appeared on shows together.I am glad the numerous posters who thought The Middle would be ending with season 7 were wrong. |
