Default Five Ways to Fix HBO’s Girls

http://www.twcc.com/articles/2015/01...ix-hbo-s-girls

Quote:
HBO’s half hour comedy titled Girls became a sure fire hit in 2012, a creation by the young visionary – writer, director and star Lena Dunham. It is the story of a group of young girls living in New York after graduating from college. With a fresh take on the young woman trying to make it on her own in the big city, Girls has also found critical success winning several Prime Time Emmys and two Golden Globe Awards. But as Girls enters its fifth season on HBO, it seems to have lost its way just a bit. Here are a few helpful hints and suggestions to bring Girls back to the limelight and perhaps in the strategic position to win more acclaim.

Girls starring Lena Dunham airs on HBO Sundays at 9 pm ET.

Move Adam to Iowa to Join Hanna

At the beginning of season five, Hannah (Lena Dunham) moves to Iowa to attend graduate school. She leaves behind her boyfriend Adam (Adam Driver), who is an actor and found short-lived success in a small role in a Broadway play in season four. It’s the first time that Hannah has been without Adam and the episodes show this missing link all too well. Since Adam hasn’t a current work commitment to keep him in New York, it would be ideal to have him join Hannah and support her in her current work. Adam could find the time to pen the next Broadway hit as he stays with his girl.

Allow Marnie to Blossom into an Indie Music Darling of Manhattan

Marnie (Allison Williams) has only just of late been given the chance to prove herself as a talented singer – most of her early tries were met with indignation among her friends. Just of late, her teaming up with Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) has given her just the opportunity to go on her own and become a local celebrity in the Indie Music scene in Manhattan, leaving behind the cheating Desi.

Promote Peter Scolari & Becky Ann Baker to Series Regulars

Lena’s parents (Peter Scholari and Becky Ann Baker) have been Hannah’s touchstone during her journey into young adulthood, and they have been there since the first episode when they told Hannah that they would no longer support her financially. Her moments with her parents are very funny and give Hannah’s character a history that can be used to help define her character better. We want to see more of the parents that seem to be there for Hannah, even in ways she may not first identify as supportive.

Reveal Hannah’s More Sensible Side

We all know that Hannah is an artist at heart and is still striving to have this voice heard by others, but like many artists she is lacking a sensible side. Graduate school could be the time that Hannah learns that being sensible will not squelch her artistic side, but yet enhance it and allow her to connect with those that read her stories, and in turn bring Hannah her first success as a writer.

Bring in Strong Male Characters of Color

One thing about Girls that seems missing is the absenteeism of characters of color. Bringing in a strong male character of color would give Girls more dimension and pairing this character with the all too innocent Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) would give a way for her character to develop and flourish. Perhaps it would also create many reasons for laughter as well.

How about pull the plug? Lena Dunham admitted to raping her sister.

Why has HBO refused to cancel the program, WHEN SHE CLEARLY ADMITTED THIS?!

That's not what she said.
