Malcolm-Jamal Warner on Cosby: 'It's Painful to Watch My Mentor Go Through This'

Bill Cosby's onscreen son, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, has opened up about the sexual assault allegations mounting against his former co-star, saying it was 'painful' to watch. Warner, 44, was being interviewed by Billboard on Wednesday following his Grammy nomination for his work on Robert Glasper's Black Radio 2 album.

The musician and actor, who played Cosby's son Theo Huxtable in the sitcom from 1984-1992, said it was difficult to watch Cosby face allegations 'just as it's painful to hear any woman talk about sexual assault, whether true or not'.

Warner didn't directly address the allegations made by at least 15 women, citing a lack of first-hand knowledge.

However, he added: ''The Bill Cosby I know has been great to me and great for a lot of people. What he's done for comedy and television has been legendary and history-making.

'What he's done for the black community and education has been invaluable. That's the Bill Cosby I know.'

Warner and his mentor Cosby were believed to be close after the comedian wrote the role of Theo Huxtable based on own son Ennis - even incorporating real-life conversations the father and son had into the script.

Ennis Cosby, the TV star's only son with whom Warner was also friendly, was shot dead in a car-jacking in LA in 1997.

Cosby, 77, has not been charged with a crime and through his attorney has denied allegations, some of them dating back decades, that he drugged and assaulted women.

Warner's cautious remarks came soon after a fellow TV star, and former producer of one of Cosby's TV shows, said that the allegations made against Cosby were true.

I forsee a day where men are going to be required by law to obtain a woman's signature on a standard sexual consent form before he will be legally allowed to have sex with her. He siad/ She said is not only allowing a lot of predators to get away with coerced sex and sexual advances, but when it's just one person's word against the other with no other witnesses (which of course the way 99% of sexual activity occurs anyway) there's simply not enough proof to warrant an indictment. Bill Cosby is completely and totally innocent of these accusations until he is charged with and convicted of at least one. Regardless of what the truth is. What matters is LAW. PERIOD. THE END. DROP THE CURTAIN.

I agree Cleverfun3000. I'm very disappointed in what Bill has done but i don't think he'll ever be found guilty of these accusations because this stuff happened a long time ago and these women should've went to the police when it happened. If they would've done that, Bill would've gotten in trouble and would've did some prison time.

I've said that all along......33 people came forward and none has any proof. All I ask is something to confirm it, police report, Dr report something.

I know some will say the women are the victims, i'm not saying every woman who is raped is lying. I just question in this case why none of them, not a single person reported when it happened and none decided to document it.
So to those that want t get in an argument I'm just looking for 1 person with real evidence and then i'll believe it.
