Bad 'Baby Bob' should be sent to bed without any television

I never thought the kid in "Look Who's Talking" was all that hilarious. But compared to the title character of "Baby Bob" (7:30 tonight, Channel 58), a CBS sitcom scheduled for a six-week trial run, the baby in the movie looks like Robin Williams on a good night.
Bob (voiced by Ken Campbell) is a six-month-old who talks. He brings to mind a one-liner of Ellen DeGeneres': She's not especially intrigued by the idea of a talking dog because, having known a few dogs in her life, she's pretty sure they'd mostly just yell, "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!" all day long.
Listening to Bob is just about that entertaining. If he's not telling tedious stories about a tot's lot in life ("Held a raisin in my fist for almost two seconds, but then I dropped it, then I picked it up, then I dropped it - they're so darned little!"), he's making wisecracks that would embarrass an infant half his age ("I wasn't born yesterday - recently, but not yesterday").
Adam Arkin and Joely Fisher play Bob's parents, Walter and Lizzy, who are in on the secret, and Holland Taylor and Elliott Gould play his grandparents, Madeline and Sam, who aren't. They all look uncomfortable, and they should.
Putting the babe in baby sitter is Marissa Tait ("The Bold and the Beautiful"), whose character, Teala, knows about Bob, except that Lizzy and Walter don't know that she knows. Oh, the possibilities!
No, I'm kidding. "Baby Bob" has no possibilities. It sounds mean to say it about such a cute little fella, but this kid needs to put the pacifier back in his mouth and shut up.

The New York TV critics had a field day with this stinker. You can almost hear them giglling with glee as they sit at their computers, figuring out how many more words they can think of that mean "bad."

There is a reason why these shows are aired in the middle of March.....

This show's been done already - about 10 years ago, there was a show called "Baby Talk" with Julia Duffy and Scott Baio. It was basically a ripoff of the "Look Who's Talking" movies. For reasons known only to God, the network (I think it was ABC) stuck with this program through an entire season, and the show went on to a second season.

After Baby Bob's initial 6 week run, I suspect the show will go "on hiatus". (assuming it lasts the entire 6 weeks!)

Six episodes?

You're too kind Jimbo. I give it three weeks 'til they yank it!

It was ABC. There was some lady that was in the mother role before Julia Duffy. Anyone remember who it was?

I remember the show Baby Talk. It premiered like in 1991 on TGIF. I loved it and I wished it lasted longer. I hope Baby Bob will get a chance to succeed. I really think this show is neat. I love it.

I think it is a funny show......its not stupid. Bob has great expressions and he doesn't understand a lot of things.\

Bob: You guys are making me thirsty.Mom?
Lizzy: Ok....We're switching to Formula like tonight

Julia Duffy was the first Mom in the series.
She quit and was replaced by Mary Paige Keller.

The early episodes with Missi Duffy also featured George Clooney in the Travolta role.
When the show was revamped, Scott Baio took over.

Nothing helped. This show was awful!!!

The ratings were very good for the first night. http://tv.zap2it.com/news/tvnewsdaily.html?24650

But that was the first night. A lot of things can change next week-that's when the verdict will be in on the future of Bob...

If this sitcom continues to get better ratings then yes, dear....then yes, dear will be gone. Baby Bob is a funny show not the best but better than most stuff on the air.

Before you trash Baby Bob, remember that Gilligan's Island was trashed mercilessly by critics and even by CBS which aired it! It's still in reruns and is one of the most popular sitcoms on this website. And Robert Reed thought that many of The Brady Bunch plots and scripts were stupid. That show, too, is still in reruns. My wife and I thought Baby Bob was cute and pleasant and funny.

I certainly hope the show has some success, because if it fails, then this will be the third sitcom in two years that Joely Fisher has appeared in that has been cancelled after a few episodes.

Can you name them???

Baby Bob is really good I especially like seeing familiar faces like the parents in the show.
