The first name that pops into my mind about older actors playing teens is Richard Crenna. Wasn't he in his 20's playing Walter Denton on Our Miss Brooks.

I just learned that Miss Brahms from Are You Being Served? wa s supposed to be 18, in the first season. The actress playing her - Wendy Richard- was actually 30!

In the movie The Love Ins, Susan Oliver is supposed to be a college student and she was 35 at the time.

Were seeing this now with shows such as iCarly and Victorious...

I think at least part of the reason we didn't typically see teens play teens until recently is because there weren't outlets on television dedicated only to broadcasting pre-teen and teen-oriented programming like Nickelodeon and Disney Channel.

Meh, that doesn't really have anything to do with it (see my post above about Nickelodeon and Disney Channel).

The fact is while children and teenagers tend to be cheaper to hire for acting roles, they simply lack experience and are thus harder to work with.
