ABC Cancels 'Selfie'

Selfie just joined its Tuesday companion, fellow new ABC comedy Manhattan Love Story, on the list of cancellations this season. ABC has opted not to order more episodes of Selfie beyond the initial 13. Unlike Manhattan Love Story, which was pulled effective immediately, Selfie will be on this coming Tuesday but its scheduling beyond that is unclear. Two original episodes of the series each logged an underwhelming 0.9 in 18-49 (Live+same day) this week. Another low-rated showing will likely trigger yanking from the schedule.

I like Selfie - mostly for Karen Gillan - but pretty muc h expected it woul d cancelled, I'm actually surprised it lasted as long as it has.

ABC has canceled Selfie, in a move that shocks none but saddens a few. The freshman sitcom has aired six episodes so far, and ABC's current plan is to still air at least one more, which seems like an excellent strategy all around. Selfie, a modern-day take on Pygmalion, had glimmers of promise but ultimately was not as good as one would want it to be, especially given the intense charm of its leads, John Cho and Karen Gillian. Fly your hashtags at half mast, kids.

Advertiser interest in product integration seems to have waned. For instance, ABC's "Selfie" was perfect for product placement. But there was zero interest.

Selfie may have also been done in by having somewhat of an "audience alienating premise". The main character was basically a social media influencer. And to borrow from another online discussion, that sort of thing is just mired in the sort of culture that a lot of people dislike at worst or find "how do you do fellow kids" at best.
