Default Wondering if Chico and the Man is the only 70's sitcom that is.....

1. with no full episodes on youtube

2. no complete seasons on DVD

3. Not on Cable

4. Not on Digital TV

This show looks to be lost forever

I'm still hoping that Shout! will rescue it and release a complete series set.

As of now, all we have is the 6 episode "best of" set that WB released a few years ago.

Was the Sammy Davis episode included?

Chico and the Man extinct from reruns or YouTube forever? I would think this is because of star Freddie Prinze's suicide having such a huge impact on the show (since he played a title character), and viewers are not willing to watch any of the post-Prinze-suicide episodes. Just my opinion.

Or it could be since it was rarely in syndication not a lot of people had a chance to record episodes

I've always heard that when a person dies in the manner he did, they won't put the show in syndication or release it on dvd. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind it, this would also be the case for Alias Smith and Jones. Peter Duel committed suicide during filming and you don't see that show anymore either.

Chico and the Man (1974) : Why is this show not in syndication?

Chico and the Man (1974) : The dreaded 4th Season

But it did receive a 6-episode release from WB a few years back.

I don't think suicide would automatically keep a show from being released. No one's going to stop watching Robin Williams just because he committed suicide.

I think the difference is that you couldn't see Robin Williams' physical deterioration on screen like you apparently did w/ Freddie Prinze (because of his drug abuse) towards the end of his run on Chico....

I doubt it. Chico and the Man aired regularly in syndication through the 1980s. It aired on TV Land in the early 2000's, not for long, but for about a year. I think we are just dealing with a show that hasn't done well in syndication.

Also, remember, Warner Bros. just started to open it's vaults to these digital sub-channels. I think it's only a matter of time before we see it.

I asked Warner Archive on FB a few years ago about Chico and the Man and the told me there were music rights so I'd be surprised if this show ever makes it to DVD. Maybe Shout could release it, that might be the only way. I even mentioned a few years ago on here how it's the only long running sitcom from the 1970's that hasn't been released on DVD yet. Kinda surprised there aren't any full episodes on YT or some other site.
