Stupid people only watched it for the cheerleaders.
"Oh rah rah! Lets show off what little talent we have by shaking all of the skin thats hanging out of the two pieces of fabric that are being called our uniforms, while drunk guys are fighting each other and grabbing at us while no one pays attention to the boring game of football that is going on!" |

I like football, but the XFL never interested me enough to watch it even once. Football is nice but there's only so much the average person can take. NBC recently announced that they will be airing arena football games. I predict similar failure for that as the XFL failed.

I didn't mean to suggest that arena football would disappear as the XFL has. All I meant was that I am not sure it has broad enough appeal to be carried on a major network. I guess I should have been more clear about that..... |

XFL is too exagerated of an NFL version, I'm glad XFL is gone for good.

The XFL failed. So did the World League of American Football, NFL Europe, the USFL, and the WFL. I think it's obvious by now that the marketplace will only sustain one professional football league. And right now the NFL is that league.

Had McMahon stayed out of the way and let the league stay its course as a low-level professional football league (in other words, Vince should've acted like a silent partner, treating it like an investment instead of a pulpit), maybe it would have had a chance at a second season, but the moment they started introducing feuding angles between Jesse Ventura and coaches, strippers in hot tubs, and camera stunts in the cheerleaders' locker rooms, it was dead on arrival. Lets face it, even in its boom periods wrestling does have a stigma attached to it. Sports fans, like fans of any form of entertainment, don't like having their intelligence insulted and that's what the XFL trafficked in week in and week out until the final whistle. |
