CBS on "Two and a Half Men's" 'Gay Wedding' (TCA 2014)
"Two and a Half Men" Is Heading for a 'Gay Wedding'
by Matt Webb Mitovich July 17, 2014 CBS’ "Two and a Half Men" is poised to say “I do” before it says adieu. In its farewell run (premiering Oct. 30), the long-running sitcom will find Walden (played by Ashton Kutcher) proposing marriage to Alan (Jon Cryer) — if not in the name of love, for a greater good. “Walden is going to have a major health scare and it is going to give him a bit of an existential crisis,” CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler told reporters Thursday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour. “He wants to find a way to add more meaning to his life, so he decides he wants to adopt a child. And in doing so, he starts the process and he realizes that it’s very difficult to adopt a child as a single, straight man.” Cue the popping of a Q! “So once and for all, he decides, ‘I’m going to propose to Alan,’” Tassler shared. “‘We’re going to get married and adopt a child as a gay couple.’” Though Tassler believed the storyline would send a "positive statement" and she wouldn't receive backlash from the LGBT community, some tweeters were quick to criticize "Man" for exploiting rights that the community has fought so hard to obtain and, in some states, still do not have. GLAAD declined to comment directly on the story line until seeing the finished product, but Sarah Kate Ellis, the organization's president and CEO, released a statement on Thursday morning in response. "We hope the show will acknowledge not only the progress made in acceptance of gay and lesbian couples, but also the fact that — in many areas of the country — same-sex couples are often under greater scrutiny or still barred from adoption options that straight couples have." http://tvline.com/2014/07/17/two-and...-final-season/ |

And considering what Angus T. Jones has said in the past about questionable morals on the show, it's really rich they're considering to end the show on that note!

All of this time, I was championing for a season twelve. I almost wish I'd kept my mouth closed. This storyline is waaaay off base. Borderline pathetic.

"For us it was just a fun, silly idea that some people were taking kind of seriously, so that sort of surprised us,” says Cryer of the plan for Alan to marry Ashton Kutcher’s character. "But at the same time I understand. This is a time when our nation is changing so much. And let's remember, same-sex adoption is still illegal in some states so I can see why people would be nervous about it. And as long as the fight is still being fought they have a right to be sensitive about it.” PLUS: Jon Cryer recalls when Charlie Sheen began going crazy on “Men,” Sheen says "I just think it makes sense” for him to return to “Men,” Cryer recalls being labeled “The Show Killer,” and Conchata Ferrell recalls auditioning for Berta.
