TV Update: "SNL" Fires Brooks Wheelan, Nöel Wells, John Milhiser

Brooks Wheelan Says He's Been Fired from "Saturday Night Live"
July 14, 2014
by Tim Surette

"Saturday Night Live" star Brooks Wheelan took to Twitter on Monday to say that he's been let go as a cast member of the NBC sketch show.

"Had a blast and loved every second of it," Wheelen tweeted. "I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"

Wheelan, a 27-year-old stand-up comic from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was one of six new cast members added to the show's 39th season during a major cast overhaul following the departures of Fred Armisen, Seth Meyers, Jason Sudeikis, and Bill Hader.

The fate of the other five new cast members — Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, John Milhiser, Noël Wells, and Mike O'Brien—has not yet been determined.

NBC declined to comment on the news.

that's too bad - I thought he was one of the better additions.

I am also hoping they keep Kyle Mooney, Noël Wells, and Mike O'Brien, but who knows what the heck can happen.

Default Brooks Wheelan: “SNL” fired me

https://twitter.com/brookswheelan/st...21599936606208

One of seven featured players hired last season, Wheelan just tweeted: "Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!” The L.A.-based standup comic, considered the most likely to be fired of last season's new featured players, last year documented his "SNL" hiring in a video capturing one second from each day of 2013. PLUS: Wheelan quit his job as an engineer to join "SNL."

SNL Axes Two More Rookies
by Michael Slezak
July 15, 2014

Heads are rolling like a "Game of Thrones" finale at "Saturday Night Live" this week.

Hot on the heels of firing rookie Brooks Wheelan yesterday, NBC’s sketch-comedy series has dropped fellow featured players Nöel Wells and John Milhiser heading into its 40th season this fall, according to Deadline.

Wells and Milhiser were among eight featured players — alongside Wheelan, Beck Bennett, Mike O’Brien, Kyle Mooney, Sasheer Zamata and Colin Jost — who debuted during SNL‘s critically maligned Season 39.

Milhiser was mostly relegated to the background during his SNL tenure. Wells got a strong start in the Season 39 premiere playing Lena Dunham’s Hannah Horvath in a spoof of HBO’s "Girls", but failed to gain much traction thereafter alongside a strong roster of female reperatory players including Emmy nominated Kate McKinnon, plus Vanessa Bayer, Aidy Bryant and Cecily Strong.

i really don't understand why they are keeping Beck Bennett and Colin Jost - i honestly can't think of a single thing that Bennett did this season, and the only thing Jost does is the completely superfluous sidekick bit on the news backing up Cecily Strong (who did it fine all by herself).

I am more upset about them dropping Noel Wells; she stood out more than all the other new cast-mates combined through the first half of the season, and then they just stopped using her for some reason.

Default How not to get fired on “SNL”: Do characters, not impressions

http://www.indiewire.com/article/how...-live-20140715

Fired featured player Noel Wells was great at impersonating people like Zooey Deschanel and Lena Dunham. But the problem with impressions is that you tend to disappear into your character. While creating a character offers something unique.

I really liked noel wells and I cant remember anything that beck Bennett did ether colin jost is a writer on the show too so maybe they just deicded to keep him around for that reason who knows he migh get better on update but I sure don't see him being and the same class as chevy chase dennis miller or tina fey when it comes to anchoring the segment

yet Colin Jost's entire act on SNL is a lame impersonation of Seth Meyers...
