'The Shield' actor Michael Jace charged in wife's shooting death
By Alan Duke, CNN
updated 10:40 AM EDT, Tue May 20, 2014

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jace, who played a Los Angeles cop in TV's "The Shield," has been charged in the fatal shooting of his wife, police said Tuesday.

April Jace, 40, was found shot to death in her south Los Angeles home by police called there to investigate a shooting, Los Angeles Police Detective Lyman Doster said.

"At this moment the motive of the murder is believed to be domestic violence," a police news release said.

Investigators detained Jace, 51, at the couple's Hyde Park area home Monday night and booked the actor on a homicide charge early Tuesday, according to Doster.

Jace was booked into a Los Angeles jail with bail set at $1 million.

The FX police drama "The Shield" was the biggest and longest-running role in Jace's 22-year acting career. He appeared in 89 episodes as Julien Lowe, who started as a rookie officer in an inner-city Los Angeles police precinct in 2002 and rose through the ranks to become a detective before the series ended in 2008, according to the Internet Movie Database.

He acted on several episodes of "Southland," another TV drama about Los Angeles police, between 2009 and 2012.

Jace often played a law enforcement or military officer on television shows. He is credited with roles in "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," "Private Practice," "The Mentalist," "Burn Notice" and "NYPD Blue."

He had the title role of Michael Jordan in the 1999 TV movie about the NBA star, "Michael Jordan: An American Hero."

Jace played Officer Brown in Russell Crowe's 2009 film "State of Play," and he portrayed a Black Panther member in the 1994 blockbuster movie "Forrest Gump."

He did it. Just wait. Soon, there will be a mountain of evidence to prove he did it.

Actor Michael Jace called police himself to report his wife had been shot, and he had pulled the trigger Monday night in Los Angeles... TMZ has learned.

According to law enforcement sources Jace called 911 around 8:30 PM and told police ... "I shot my wife."

We're told Jace's neighbors in the Hyde Park area of L.A. had reported shots fired in the home ... and shortly thereafter Jace made his call to 911.

Sources tell us the actor stayed on the phone, as instructed, until LAPD arrived and found his 40-year-old wife, April Jace dead.

We're told Jace was home alone when his wife arrived with their kids ... a short time later he allegedly shot her.

Jace -- best know as Detective Lowe from "The Shield" -- was taken into custody, and as of 1:00 AM Tuesday ... was being questioned, but had not been booked for his wife's death.

That's not the issue. He admitted he did it - "I shot my wife."

I wonder if Jace will be blacklisted by Hollywood? They blacklisted O.J. Simpson following the double homicide case.

Michael Jace Formally Charged With the Murder of His Wife
May 22, 2014
by Tim Surette

Michael Jace, the actor known for playing Officer Julien Lowe on FX's "The Shield", has been formally charged with the murder of his wife, CNN reports.

Police responded to a 911 call from Jace, 51, on Monday night at April Jace's Los Angeles home where they found the 40-year-old dead. She died from "multiple gunshot wounds," according to preliminary autopsy reports.

The death was ruled a homicide by the Los Angeles County coroner.

Police believe the murder was a result of domestic violence. Two children were in the home when the shooting took place.

Jace was charged with domestic abuse in his previous marriage. In recent years, Jace apparently suffered from financial problems and filed for bankruptcy in 2011.

Jace is scheduled to make his first appearance in a courtroom regarding the charge on Thursday afternoon. His bail is set at 1 million dollars.

LOL@Vahan saying he wonders if Michael is gonna be blacklisted by Hollywood hahahahahahahahahahaha. His acting career is done. So he can forget about that. I saw on MSN.com a few days ago that he's facing 50 years to life in prison. He might die in prison because i know he's gonna be found guilty. I saw a picture of him and his wife and she's cute. I wonder why he killed her. I didn't read the article when i first heard about it. If she was getting on his nerves, he should've broke up with her. Ain't no woman gonna piss me off so bad that i'm gonna kill her or beat her up and it's a shame that some men beat up and kill their wives or girlfriends. I only saw a few episodes of The Shield and i remember him. I think his character was gay. I first saw him in The Great White Hype with Samuel Jackson, Damon Wayans, Jamie Foxx. His character was a boxer and Jamie was his friend. Then i saw he had a small part in Tyson which was about former boxer Mike Tyson which was played by Michael Jai White. I just saw him in the Michael Jordan movie a few months ago for the first time and he did a good job playing Michael.

"The Shield" Actor Michael Jace Pleads Not Guilty to Murder Charge
6/18/14
by The Associated Press

Actor Michael Jace pleaded not guilty to a murder charge Wednesday in the shooting death of his wife in their Los Angeles home.

In addition, a judge ordered defendant Jace to stay away from his two young children and not contact them if he is eventually released on $2 million bail.

He is due back in court Aug. 1 for the possible start of a preliminary hearing.

The actor, who played a police officer on the television series "The Shield", did not enter a plea during his initial court appearance last month.

Police say Jace shot his wife, April, multiple times in the family's Los Angeles home May 19 while their young children were present. The boys were unharmed and are living with relatives.

Police have not released a motive for the slaying, but have said they are looking into whether financial or other domestic issues may have been involved. Jace's attorneys have said the case is still in its early stages and their investigation is ongoing.

April Jace's family has called her death a senseless act of domestic violence.

Police say Jace called 911 to report the killing. Audio of Jace's call has not been released, but fire officials released a 911 call from the victim's father earlier this month in which he says the actor told him he had shot his wife.

"My son-in-law called me, and texted me, and said come get the kids because he shot April, our daughter," the caller, whose name was redacted from the audio, told a fire department dispatcher.

April Jace, 40, a financial aid counselor at Biola University, had three sons, including two boys under the age of 10 with Jace.

"The Shield" Actor Michael Jace Sentenced To 40 Years to Life in Wife’s Murder
by David Robb
June 10, 2016

"The Shield" actor Michael Jace was sentenced to 40 years to life today in a Los Angeles court for the murder of his wife April Jace two years ago.

Jace told arresting detectives that he shot his wife April Jace, who was seeking divorce, during a jealous rage. She was found dead in the couple’s Los Angeles home. A former world-class sprinter, she was shot twice in the legs and once in the back. Their 10-year-old son, who witnessed the shooting, testified that his dad told her, “‘If you like running, then run to heaven,’” as he shot her.

Her family called the shooting, “a senseless act of domestic violence.
