After accusing her of stealing why would she return to work for them? She should have been able to find another housekeeping job instead of looking like a fool and returning to a place after being accused of a theif

Mabel did have another job, but it was only part time and just a few days a week. I guess she was really in need of that extra money which is why she went back to work for that lying gambler and his dopey wife. Those idiots were lucky that Mabel took the job back.

How could anyone accuse Ms. Thomas of any wrong doing? She was like the most honest person ever.

Even though Mabel worked as a housekeeper, wasn't it implied that she was fairly well compensated for the times? Think about it this way, she was able to be a homeowner of a pretty spacious home in Los Angeles with her income.
