Its use of an apartment setting, real chains and Chuck Lorre are among the reasons why so many people flock to CBS on Thursdays at 8. PLUS: Jim Parsons says “Big Bang” is so successful because nobody changes. Read more at http://www.hitfix.com/tv-tattle#4Kk33ZMfCbiLIHzl.99 |

I think one reason is all the novelty that is depicted on the show.First of all,I'm sure many people get a kick out of how the guys speak of superheroes as if they were real people. Then there's all that "plethora of useless or near useless information that Sheldon is.Sometimes these guys can drive you a bit nuts in real life, but then this is not real life,it's tv so something like this really can only enhance character depth.(alternate case in point-Cliff Claven from "Cheers")One HUGE reason is the continued deepening focus on the guys' romantic relationships with Amy,Bernadette and,of course, the off again on again Leonard/Penny thing.I forget, was that on now?The main reason for show's high success I think is the audience's accessibilities to the the different character types. As much all but Penny have exceptionally high IQ's,one can still eyewitness their SHORTCOMINGS as people as well.As far as the Kaley Cuoco character, well that's kind of obvious.Yes,she's funny and a half decent actress, but let's face it,she's kind of like an "IT" girl sexually.Speaking as plaintively as possible,it's just a damn good well written show.So sad to witness the passing of poor Professor Proton..............

I think it is pretty simple. Like any successful show the characters are well developed and likeable and the writers continue to put out funny material week after week.

Another possible reason why The Big Bang Theory is the No. 1 show on broadcast TV? I think TBBT is the greatest alternative to those "evil" animated shows with a "floating timeline", such as The Simpsons, King of the Hill, and South Park.

Very good article. I would agree with all of it. Main reasons for me are certainly the cast (I think beautiful Kaley Cuoco kept quite a few young men watching in the beginning) and the humour. I think everyone has a little nerd in them ;-)

The show was better the first seasons, I think there are too many characters now...
