Maybe after this upcoming fifth and last Indiana Jones film, he will retire by then.

How do you retire from public life? Does this mean Shia intends to live as a hermit in a cave somewhere?
If a fifth Indiana Jones movie gets made (which I'd love to see, by the way)- I don't know that Mutt would have a huge role, if one at all. But maybe- now that Indy is married to Marion, I would like to see her appear again and Mutt could have an appearance- but I think they might be in more of a cameo or smaller role capacity.

So, if a celebrity were to announce that he is to "retire from public life", I would think this mean he (the celebrity) would have to permanently quit his acting job, as well as permanently quit making media appearances and public appearances, and he and his family would escape to a place far away from Hollywood.

I agree. But seeing as how Shia's currently working as a producer on a movie that's filming and he's scheduled to appear in two movies coming out this year, I doubt that's happening. Maybe he just means that while he'll still be doing some acting, etc. - he prefers to keep a low profile. But that isn't very realistic in Hollywood. Of course, for another possibility- I think sometimes celebrities might say stuff like this just to garner some attention again. (Not saying that he is doing that here- just a possibility.)

It blows my mind how he has a job after how many things he's done to make a fool of himself since 2005.

He seems just like his character in Disturbia in real life.

Best wishes,
Chris Ferguson

I know he's not appearing in Transformers films and Indiana Jones films has been to proven that they are already ended.
