Default New Gilligan's Island movie Josh Gad as?

They say Josh Gad could be either Gilligan or the Skipper.
Or a distant longshot, Ginger.
Who do you think he'll be?

Gilligan's Island Movie Josh GadEXCLUSIVE: Remember Gilligan’s Island, the venerable 1960s TV series about seven castaways who wind up stranded on a tropical island after a torrential storm shipwrecks their yacht The S.S. Minnow? Warner Bros is charting a course for a feature film based on the series. It will be fashioned as a star vessel for Book Of Mormon‘s Josh Gad. Gad, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez will write the script. Lloyd Schwartz, Ross Schwartz, Tracey Silvers and Cathy Silvers will be executive producers. They’re not saying what character Gad would play, but the title character seems a possibility, though he could conceivably play The Skipper.

joshgadThe original series with the catchy theme song was created by Sherwood Schwartz, and starred Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale Jr as Skipper, Jim Backus and Natalie Schafer as Thurston and Lovey Howell, Dawn Wells as Mary Ann, and Tina Louise as Ginger. A three-hour charter boat tour from Honolulu turned into a three-season stay on CBS and three follow-up telepics as the marooned shipmates thrived in syndication with the family audience.

Gad is separately the choice to play manic stand-up comedian Sam Kinison in Kinison, a biopic that will be directed by Borat helmer Larry Charles and produced by David Permut from a script by Rich Wilkes. The movie package was put together by ICM Partners. Gad’s managed by Brillstein and lawyered by Ziffren Brittenham.

Cool

I'm glad that a couple of members of the Schwartz family will be involved with this movie. I see Josh Gad as the Skipper moreso than as Gilligan.

Default Casting the ‘Gilligan’s Island’ Movie with Josh Gad

http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-...203025069.html

Quote:
Michael Cera as Gilligan (Original Actor: Bob Denver)

Who better to play everyone's "Little Buddy" than the life (and, later, death) of the "This Is the End" party? After weirdo turns in weirdo indie flicks like "Magic Magic" and "Crystal Fairy," the "Superbad" star could use a return to comedy -- you can even imagine Jonah Hill as Gilligan's oft-mentioned but never-seen best pal, Skinny Mulligan.

Josh Gad as Skipper Jonas Grumby (Original Actor: Alan Hale, Jr.)

While its safe to assume that Warner Bros. is picturing Gad for Gilligan, we think the more interesting casting would be having him play the Skipper of the doomed S.S. Minnow. We can totally picture him being alternately exasperated by and affectionate toward Michael Cera's Gilligan, swatting him with his hat and calling him "Little Buddy." If the film keeps with the story being set in the '60s, you could even have a flashback scene in which Gilligan saves the Skipper from a loose depth charge when they're serving in the United States Navy during World War II, as described in the show.

Scarlett Johansson as Ginger Grant (Original Actor: Tina Louise)

Who better to play "the Movie Star" than one of the hottest movie stars working today? ScarJo would look great in Ginger's increasingly outrageous evening gowns, though it's her knack for comedy -- recently on display in "Don Jon" and Spike Jonze's "Her" — that would really bring the role home. Otherwise ... we wouldn't mind Emma Stone one bit.

Mila Kunis as Mary Anne Summers (Original Actor: Dawn Wells)

The ever-burning question of "Ginger or Mary Anne?" will be asked once again as "Black Swan" beauty Mila Kunis gives ScarJo a run for her money as Mary Anne Summers, the farm girl hottie from Winfield, Kansas. Maybe Mila will further follow in Dawn Wells' footsteps and publish her own "Mary Ann's Gilligan's Island Cookbook."

Armie Hammer as Professor Roy Hinkley, Ph.D. (Original Actor: Russell Johnson)

He's handsome, he's funny, and everyone needs to just forget the whole "Lone Ranger" disaster and let this guy be a movie star. Armie Hammer showed off his comedy chops to terrific effect in "Mirror Mirror," bringing a sense of bumbling pride to the character of Prince Alcott; add that to the Ivy League arrogance of his Winklevoss Twins in "The Social Network" and you've got the perfect Professor Roy Hinkley, whose supposed technical expertise never quite contributed enough to the seemingly insurmountable task of getting off the island.

Kelsey Grammer as Thurston Howell III (Original Actor: Jim Backus)

Frasier from "Cheers" as Thurston Howell III -- Harvard graduate, Republican and multi-billionaire until his losses in the Great Depression left him merely a multi-millionaire? The term 'no-brainer' comes to mind.

Allison Janney as Eunice Lovelle Wentworth Howell (Original Actor: Natalie Schafer)

Wrapping up our fantasy "Gilligan's Island" movie cast is "Juno" and "The Way Way Back" star Allison Janney as Eunice Howell, Thurston's pompous and fussy wife. Janney would be perfect in expressing her aghast-ness toward the whole stowaway situation, and might even allow the filmmakers to film her in close-up -- something that original actor Natalie Schafer ensured would never happen in her contract, perhaps because of her age (she was 63 at the time the pilot was shot, and took the job only because it was being filmed in Hawaii).

I love the show, but I think I'll skip the movie, though I probably end up watching it on tv, at least brief moments when I'm channel surfing!

I read an article with Camille Crane, Tina Louise's daughter. She suggested they make the professor gay for the movie. It certainly would make the plot relevant to current times.

Default Tina Louise's daughter on Gilligan movie

Actually her name is Caprice Crane .
She says her mom Tina Louise had a soft spot for the show.
Well, that's new.
TODAY poll said viewers want Christina Hendricks of MAD MEN for Ginger.

Daughter of 'Gilligan's Island's' Ginger: Make Professor gay in reboot

Caprice Crane says her mom Tina Louise is still out there, acting and "being awesome."

"Gilligan's Island" is set for a big screen voyage, and that makes casting — and plot — super-hot topics. So how about Jennifer Lawrence as bombshell Ginger? What about a gay Professor? Both are suggestions shared with TODAY by Caprice Crane, the daughter of Tina Louise, the actress who played Ginger.

"My mom was constantly coming on to the Professor on the show, and he was never into it," said Crane, a writer based in Los Angeles. "So the Professor could be the gay one. It would explain a lot. It would be fun if they shake it up, make it worthy of today's times."

Crane wasn't born until after "Gilligan's" ended, but she knows that Ginger was one of the show's most beloved characters, and is hoping someone with real star power will take on the role her mom created. (Josh Gad is already attached, though his part is not yet known.)

"They're going to have their work cut out for them finding someone who is as awesome and gorgeous and funny as my mom," she said. But after being told of TODAY's survey (in which readers preferred "Mad Men's" Christina Hendricks to play Ginger), she had her own favorite.

"I'm in love with Jennifer Lawrence," she gushed. "She's so fresh and charming and I love her ideas. The last go-around when this was being discussed, Beyoncé was suggested — and I think that would be a good idea. But Christina Hendricks is the obvious physical choice."

Neither Louise — who is still working as an actress — nor Crane are involved with the feature film, which isn't too surprising: Though Crane is tactful in what she says about the series itself, there was acrimony over paying the actors. The show, created by Sherwood Schwartz (who also created "The Brady Bunch"), started in the days before actors were paid residuals every time one of their shows re-ran, so none of the actors ever benefited from the show's longevity.

"No one knew how popular shows were to become and no one knew there would be so many reruns," she said. "The cast tried to be treated fairly later on, and get those rules backdated, but it was up to the Schwartzes and both 'The Brady Bunch' and 'Gilligan's Island' (casts) kind of got screwed because they wouldn't do it. Luckily for every other actor in the world, those rules changed. But it's unfortunate."

Still, she says her mom has a "soft spot for the joy the show brought other people — anything that brings that much happiness to that many people is good."

A reboot or remake idea pops up every few years or so, said Crane, but this time having an actor such as Gad on board may actually give the project legs.

"I hope they get to do what they want," she said. "Part of me thinks I don't know why everybody has to remake everything, but part of me thinks it's great, give it a fresh twist and make it fantastic."

Thanks Smilings. I must have had a brain fart when I wrote Camille. Actually I didn't remember her name and shouldn't have just put any name in. Whether they make the professor gay or not or whatever I'd still go see it. I enjoy seeing remakes to see how the directors/producers interpret the original.

Very interesting that TINA of all people has a soft spot for Gilligan's Island. I love how the article and Caprice emphasize that TINA is still "working" as an actress. You would think she hasn't done meaty roles since the show went off the air for cryin' out loud.

Helen Mirren oozes class and she does have the "look" to fill Natalie Schafer's designer shoes.

Mila Kunis as Mary Ann? Vanessa Hudgens would be a far better choice. If not her, then Selena Gomez or Victoria Justice.
