Exclamation Update: "Family Guy" Brings Brian Back from the Dead!

"Family Guy" Shocker: Beloved Character Dies (VIDEO)
The Huffington Post | by Jason Hughes
11/25/13

At least for now, it wasn't an alternate reality or a strange dream sequence.

On this week's episode of "Family Guy", Quahog lost one of its own, and it ripped the Griffins to the core. While trying to play street hockey with Stewie, Brian was hit by a car. A short time later, with the family around him, he passed away.

Brian's final words to his family were, "You’ve given me a wonderful life. I love you all."

After about a month, the Griffins decided to get a new dog, and they chose Vinny, voiced by "The Sopranos'" Tony Sirico. Hollywood Life's Andy Swift described both the death and new addition to the family "super-ridiculous."

But executive producer Steve Callaghan defended the decision. "It seemed more in the realm of a reality that a dog would get hit by a car, then if one of the kids died," he told E! Online.

"As much as we love Brian, and as much as everyone loves their pets, we felt it would be more traumatic to lose one of the kids, rather than the family pet ... We always make choices that always work to the greatest benefit of the series."

Default Family Guy: 5 Reasons It Was A Huge Mistake To Kill Brian Griffin

http://whatculture.com/tv/family-guy...an-griffin.php

Quote:
I’ll be honest: I haven’t watched Family Guy religiously for a long time. The show took a noticeable dive in quality a few years ago when the originality seemed to drain out from within, almost as if the writers – and creator Seth MacFarlane – had given up caring. There wasn’t a particular thing about the show that put me off, but it became increasingly mean-spirited, the jokes more obscure and less funny, and the popular culture “references” were bizarrely hollow – Peter on a skateboard whilst the Back to the Future theme plays. That’s not a joke. That’s just… something.

So even though I wouldn’t say I’m a huge fan, I’ve spent enough time with Family Guy to say I’m probably more familiar with it than your average schmo. I don’t keep up with it anymore, but I’ll check it out if it’s on and I haven’t got better things to do, like cut off one of my fingers, or jump from a fatal height. Family Guy has taken a few narrative leaps already, of course, some funny (Stewie is gay!), some painfully unfunny (The Cleveland Show), but last night something happened that I’m barely able to comprehend. In fact, to be honest, I’m rather appalled.

Family Guy killed off Brian Griffin. The family dog, and Peter’s best friend. They killed him. They killed him off in a generic, banal and ridiculously dull fashion. Forget that Brian is by far one of the most likeable characters on the show, or that the only “good” episodes of Family Guy in this era usually consists of Brian and Stewie getting into some kind of misadventure… what the writers (and MacFarlane) don’t seem to realise is that Brian is arguably the most important character on the show. Here are 5 reasons why killing him off was a huge, incalculable mistake…

I hear that the death of Brian is temporary...how will they rewrite the intro?

Default "Family Guy's" ratings were in decline, so why not try a publicity stunt?

Family Guy: 5 Characters We Wished They’d Killed Instead

Family Guy: 5 Reasons Why Brian’s Death Kills The Show

Why Brian Griffin was so valuable to "Family Guy"

The family dog was "the most three-dimensional, complex character – the only character whose humor was self-deprecating," says Kevin Wong, adding he was "the only character whose humor called attention to small, human hypocrisies rather than settling for broad, easy laughs. Brian specialized in guilt-ridden 'cringe' humor, and he pushed the show into its most interesting comedic territory."

I wanted them to kill off Herbert. I agree with the list but not Meg. Everybody kept saying it should have been Meg. But not me!! It should have been everybody on that list except Meg. I would also add in Lois. Big nose witch!! The same for Chris. Unfunny and annoying. And if I could, I kill off Peter. Peter is the most annoying, fat, protaganist ever created.

the perfect character to kill off for good would be Chris out of him not being needed but yet still giving them a plot

and I could see Lois....but the family would fall apart because the only kid smart enough to fend for themselves is Stewie.

There is NO way this death is permanent. If it does turn out to be, they have effectively admitted (publicly, anyway) that they really don't care if the show tanks.

Personally, I think it should have ended years ago, as the laughs are now so cruel and usually hollow. But for anyone with any affection for the show, it's (arguably) most moral character being killed off so late in the game is just so cynical and a real slap in the face (assuming he doesn't come back).

SAY WHAT?!!!!!! Brian the most moral character?!! Come on!! Ever since this show came back from cancellation Brian has become more or just as immoral as Peter and Lois. He has lied, cheated, killed, been sexist, racist, a hypocrite and so many other things too long to mention. Brian was no angle. What happened was tragic but the Brian from the first 3 seasons was the real Brian. The Brian now was cynical and cold. If they bring him back, I hoped he changes.
