Mariska Hargitay's Haircut Almost Got Her Fired from "Law & Order: SVU"

Mariska Hargitay has had many different haircuts over the years of "Law & Order: SVU", but one in particular almost got her fired. The Emmy-winning star told WENN that Dick Wolf was not pleased with her accidental short crop.

The event happened during Season 3. "You know that moment," Hargitay said.

"I look up and then all of a sudden, he did the one irrevocable cut. I went, 'Oh! Oh!' and he said, 'What? Honey, you're gorgeous.' He kept going. He cuts it and then he leaves. I'm calling the producer at 10:30, [crying], 'I just got a haircut. I don't think it looks good!' I went over to the producer's house and he was like, 'Yeah, that's a problem.' When they saw dailies [at work], they weren't happy."

Hargitay told WENN she was in the middle of shooting an episode when she requested the haircut for a photoshoot and the stylist cut the wrong piece.

"I give the guy a glass of wine, he's trimming my hair, everything's great ... and then all of a sudden I turn my head and he cuts the wrong piece off and I was like, 'No...!' I'm like, 'Dude, I'm in the middle of an episode,'" she recently told WENN.

"I got in so much trouble."

Hargitay said she called series creator Wolf he said, "'I've fired people for less.'"

"I said, 'You can't be mad at me; I'm the one with the dramatic hairdo,'" she said.

Harigtay recently chopped off her locks as part of her character's transformation following the brutal events of the Season 15 events.

The actress' hair has not only almost gotten her fired, but has also inspired blogs.

I hated when her hair was very short. The longer the better. She's so gorgeous; definitely inherited her mother's good looks.

I agree with you that Mariska is gorgeous, but because of her beauty she *can* rock really short hair well. Almost any woman can look good with shoulder-length hair, give or take an inch on each side; but very few can be beautiful with an extreme boy-cut.

I understand what you mean. Halle Berry, Ashley Judd, Sinead O'Connor, and going back with Twiggy and Mia Farrow, all look/looked fantastic, while Jennifer Lopez would look like a man without her flowing locks. Stilll, I just love Mariska with longer hair.

I always thought that the hairstyle Detective Benson had during season 3 of L&O:SVU looked very... unisex. Also, I never even thought that the short hair looked right on Benson.

This brings to mind some of the more noticable haircuts of past TV women.

Of course the one that caused the most controversy was when Keri Russell of Felicity went to a short cut. Really a drastic difference.

Another somewhat extreme change came for Lea Thompson while starring in Caroline in the City. Her longish style fell to the scissors in favor of a sort of bold, layered cut.

I might add that sometimes the person's style comes back with longer tresses than before. Markie Post had her medium-length hair cut shorter while doing Night Court, but as the series drew to its end, she grew it out to a long style with lots of volume...!

Yes its insane though they were gonna get rid of her for havig short hair!!!

Maybe thats why she let it grow longer...
