Default 3 Reasons Why The Big Bang Theory Has Gone Downhill

http://whatculture.com/tv/3-reasons-...e-downhill.php

Quote:
The Big Bang Theory is one of the funniest shows on TV and those four geeky guys have recently come back on our screens for the 7th season. However, as with most shows, as it grows and develops, changes are made which can mean that it isn’t quite as good as it once was. In earlier seasons, the show stood out with its different storylines and episodes focussed on geeks, science experiments and every (un)cool fandom under the sun. Now, it seems to have become much more like mainstream sitcoms.

Of course, all the other sitcoms are good too and The Big Bang Theory still has a huge fanbase. However, I think there are just three things which have caused, in my opinion, a slight decline of the quality of the show.

Many sitcoms would have been on the air an additional 2-3 seasons if their characters were not allowed to grow and change. Series after series is always ruined by marriages, babies, change in living arrangements, economic status (Hello, Roseanne!), and countless other things that while showing growth, makes the characters unrecognizable from the first season or two.

people change, things change, circumstances change - all of this happens in real life.

In real life, yes; but we are talking television. There's really no point in tinkering with a winning formula under the guise of characters growing and developing over time. Look at the Peanuts characters. They have been 7 or 8 years old for decades. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

My main complaint is that "The Big Bang Theory" started out as a pretty clean show with funny humor based on science and math jokes, as well as relationships. (It reminds me of the comic strip "FoxTrot" in some ways. ) But it's gotten more and more perverse as the show has progressed, unfortunately. Even so, it's still one of the better shows on TV today.

i don't think the show has gone downhill. It's still one of the funniest and best written shows on prime time TV today.

Perhaps they fell into the trap that tends to kill sitcoms: character progression that parallels real life milestones: getting married, having kids, etc. Once that becomes part of the plot shows just stop being funny.
