They should have given him another offer like the Alaska one. Say he was going to be gone for six months. This time Florida could have kept her big mouth shut and let James go for half (or all) of season four. That would have given everyone behind the scenes time to work out their problems. THEN maybe there would have been a possibility of James coming back. It just sucks that they were so quick to kill him instead of trying to fix things.

I agree. I read that John even admitted he should have handled things differently. What's done is done.

He no longer had a contract so that's why he was killed off. |

James was killed off because John Amos was complaining about J.J. getting most of the spotlight and his other to kids who were goal motivated not getting equal billing.
It was said that producers got tired of having their ''lives threatened over jokes''. He had already been labeled as a ''disruptive element''. John Amos was on the phone with Norman Lear when he was told that he would not be with them for the next season, and John did not try to make things good with keeping his role. Lear asked him if he wanted to say something at the end of that phone conversation,he simply said no & hung up John should have attempted to do something right then and there when he was first told the news by Lear.If John would have been more diplomatic about the issues he had with the shows they may have let him stay on. There should be no doubt that Amos intimidated Lear. It is said that they killed off a strong family unit to promote the broken-home stereotype. |

Sure was. That's why I sold my DVD's because it just doesn't make sense to own the series with James only being on for 3 seasons Only series sets I buy are the ones with the main characters on the whole series Jeffersons Married With Children Seinfeld |

I won't watch ANY episode of Good Times if John (James) is not in it. |
