Nickelodeon is a pretty easy target, but then again, practically all networks, cable or otherwise, are a far cry from where they started theses days...

Nickelodeon is run by a bunch of idiots - they basically cancelled all of their good shows and have replaced them with the most stupid garbage, its no wonder they are getting soundly trounced by Disney Channel on a daily basis.

Nickelodeon has basically gone downhill ever since Cyma Zarghami became the chief/president around 2006.

I'd say it started going downhill since Dan Schneider became involved (around 1994). There's something I don't like about him, but I prefer not to say it here.

I agree. Nickelodeon is definitely not what it used to be. The old game shows and other stuff they had were fun. The only show on that channel worth watching, IMHO, is SpongeBob SquarePants and even that show is way past its prime.

Dan Schneider is arguably for better or worse, the Seth MacFarlane of Nickelodeon:
-Seth's shows take up 90% of the animated programing on Fox, while in a reversal, Schneider's shows take up 90% of the live action programing on Nick.
-They both rely on mean-spirited humor under the impression that it's funny.
-They both have shows where a character does illegal things, but gets away with them.
-They both fill their shows with innuendos in a piss-poor attempt to look mature.
-There was a point in history when both of their shows didn't completely suck.

I'm in as much agreement as anybody that Nickelodeon is not, and never again will be, the great thing that it used to be, but Dan Schneider was one of the main creative forces behind All That, which at least in my opinion is one of the greatest shows that was ever on the channel.

Also, I like to add that both of them just love to use cheaply outdated (and sometimes current) Pop Culture references just to get laughs from their home viewing audiences.

I have liked this man since I was a kid. This just cements why. He's not afraid to tell it like it is!

Nickelodeon has sucked for years now. But, it's just getting worse and worse. My nieces and nephews are not getting to grow up with the same quality programming that was on there when I was a kid (90s). It's become like Disney channel-lite. Plus, there's way too much Spongebob (The only show that is funny at times...even from an adult stand point because of the innuendo.) and all the rest of the cartoons are horrid.

As for Dan S. His earlier stuff was hilarious. All That and Kenan and Kel were positively funnier than crap. Still are when I've watched episodes as an adult (thanks TeenNick for the 90s flashbacks) But, his writing style has completely jumped the shark. Instead of being funny. His newer shows are corny and alot of the material is rude and mean-spirited.

Well, times do change and so does the taste in programming. It is something that we will have to accept. I accept it...although I do think that Nickelodeon is FAAAAAR from the glory days. Marc Summers is correct.

You can also argue that Herb Scannell "got the ball rolling" so to speak towards Nick's eventual "network decay" when he became the president of Nickelodeon around 1996.

Dan only has one show now and that is a relief.
