When Mike & Gloria moved the show was never the same. Still watchable though but their glory days were gone.

I agree. The show never "boned" for me, but I was glad when they changed the name to Archie Bunker's Place the following season, especially where Edith was on her way out and the only one left from the original show was Archie.

Never. Archie should still be on TV today.

I think it jumped twice in one year when these two things happened 1. Jeffersons moved 2. Mike and Gloria moved out the house |

Yes, when Mike & Gloria moved next door (first time), when Mike & Gloria moved to California (second time), when it became Archie Bunker's Place and Edith was gone from the show (third time). |

The show was wonderful for the first four years. Then it was if somebody started letting the actors (especially Carroll O'Connor) direct themselves. Everybody started mugging for the camera, the timing was way off, and we started getting a LOT of unnecessary close-up shots.

Once the Stivics moved out of the house, the opportunity for conflict just wasn't there as often anymore. I tend to watch Seasons 1-4 and sometimes 5 the most. I have all 9 on DVD but seldom if ever watch the last 4 seasons.
Once the Stivics moved to California, that was really it for me. To me that should have been the end of "All in the Family" right there. |

When Mike and Gloria moved to California, I felt the show lost so much because of the numerous battles between Archie and Mike. That was one key to its long, successful run and their departure changed the face of All in the Family as the focus became more on Archie, the businessman.

An interesting "real world" theory for why AITF possibly "boned the fish"/"jumped the shark"

Had the show ended with the last episode being Mike and Gloria's farewell, I think AITF's legacy would have been stronger. The final season they did with Stephanie becoming part of the family was good, with some nice stories and moments with Archie & Edith, but it just wasn't the same anymore. |

Never boned. All the seasons were great in their own way.

I’m with the “never”; I thought the show was utterly fantastic all the way through.
