Question Wayans Bros. Boned the Fish When...

http://www.bonethefish.com/viewtopics.php?1476

Quote:
The Wayans Bros. is a situation comedy that aired from 1995 to 1999 on The WB. The series starred real-life brothers Shawn and Marlon Wayans. Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans portray Shawn and Marlon Williams, two brothers who live in New York City in a one bedroom apartment and try to deal with their father, John "Pops" Williams (John Witherspoon) and the building's security guard Dee (Anna Maria Horsford).

The Wayans Brothers never boned the fish.

In fact, I think replacing the white Security Guard with Anna Marie Horsford and getting rid of the two other cast members in the first season was an improvement.

  • Other Thoughts:

This was a hilarious show, although I did have a problem with the first supporting characters early in the second season. Shawn and Marlon were just as funny as Keenen, Damon, and Kim, and John Witherspoon was hilarious as Pops. A highly recommended slapstick fest for Wayans fanatics!
They had a very special show on marijuana. Marlon lights up before an audition for a movie and acts like he's on crack and then promises himself and Shawn that he'll never do it again. It was ridiculous and I think they knew it.
this show is the best ever i mean the wayans bros. i never really paid to much attention to it until one night i stayed up and watched and shawn and marlon wayan's are great actors and they are funny and they go through lots of problems together but they make it through them and thays what i like!!
This "Very Special" episode was brought to you by your Friendly Neighborhood US Government, which has begun PAYING networks to create "Very Special" episodes. Watch out for MORE!
The Wayans Brothers is hands down the unfunniest show that has ever aired on any station, network or otherwise anywhere in the world. There is not a whisper of comedy to be found on this show. I actually sat through an entire episode of this trash because I could not believe just how unfunny it was...not one laugh...all corny bull****...Shawn and Marlon must have been adopted, because they certainly do not have any of the comedic talent or timing that their older brothers have. Case in point: Scary Movie (I know Keenan was involved) - I walked out of the theater after 20 minutes, truly embarrassed for them... Then my opinions became fact when I watched them completely bomb on the MTV Music Video Awards.. Even their peers could not bring themselves to laugh at the unfunny material they were stumbling through. Marlon had to resort to showing his ass to get a laugh out of the crowd!! Pathetic!! These two clowns should never have been given their own show..I know the Wayanses have alot of influence in Hollywood, but letting these guys act is like Clinton allowing Roger to be Speaker of the House....I can't wait until these two jackasses are unemployed!
This show never jumped, it only got funnier. When they dropped the main characters down to Marlon, Shawn, Dee, and Pops it was at its best. I still find myself quoting that show all the time, i use the phrase "Cuuuuuuukooooooooo!" almost on a daily basis.
This show jumped when it became Dumb and Dumber. Yeah both of them are pretty stupid but Marlon Wayans is a f**kin idiot compared to Shawn...the boy puts Homer Simpson to shame, no lie. Actual dialogue: "Marlon quick call 911..." "Shawn whats the number?"
Did not jump. As a matter of fact, it is one of the rare shows that has gotten better as it went on. Especially in bringing along john witherspoon's character to full star status-deservedly so! Whether you like them or not, it has gotten better. The are 2 funny dudes. Can Marlon open his mouth wider than anyone in tv history? Maybe only martha raye could have beaten him. they are both funnier than their 2 older siblings, keenan and damon.
A funnier show would have been a behind the scenes look at two untalented brothers who think they're hot shots!
This show started out funny, but then it just sucked. They started thinking that they were funny and started trying to be funny and couldn't even hide their own smiles and their laughs when they made a joke and that made it not funny. it's like when a comedienne tells a joke and laughs at it. It just ruins it.
I remember when I first saw the Wayans Bros. It was the episode where the newsstand got burned down and it KICKED A**!!! I tape every episode, cause my little brother likes to watch it but he always falls asleep before it comes on........we're brothers, we're happy and we're singing and we're colored, gimme a HIGH FIVE!!!
It never has really. This show was one of the best out there. A real good show that attracts any audience. Marlon's stupidity seems very hilarious and Pops's Personality was rockin. His Tacky Dressing, Violating Health Codes, and saying such memorable phrases like "BANG BANG BANG BANG!!", "Yididee", and "Sipdidee".
The first season wasn't too bad. Two brothers sharing an apartment and a news stand which coincidentally is next to a restaurant run by their dad. I can live with that. But then Marlon became just a little too stupid. He crossed the line between stupid/funny and stupid/stupid. After that all I could stand was the opening theme song and then I would change the channel.
i never watched this show when it was originally on, but i love all the wayans brothers anyway. i think the show is really funny, i watch it every saturday. once when i was at a baseball game these 3 white boys behind me sang the theme song "we're happy, and we're singing and we're colored" about 5 times. that experience alone was worth having the show on for so long.
When White Mike left the show. He was funny as hell! I also hated how Shawn got all the girls. He wasn't that cute.
When they changed funny theme song of them throwing the old lady across the street. To them punching the camera, and cutting to the rap song. That is around the time it got bad. I am glad these comedians are "politically conscience." If they had any conscience they would not have made 'Scary Movie 2!'
The Wayans Brothers jumped the shark when they went off the air. the only think that sucked about the Wayans Brothers is that they took the show off the air. Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans took the scripts they were given on each show and ran with them. These two should have busts in the Comedy Hall of Fame because none of these comedies today could touch their show. Marlon was thought of as the silly and childish one, but when it came to getting serious his real acting talents came out. Marlon and Shawn Wayans are the best.
It never jumped. It kept getting better. After the first season, Shawn broke up with Lisa and then the audience found out about the building's security guard, Lou. Then came Monique (hot as f**k), then Pops became a regular. After Lou left, we got Dee, and we also had a new character, T.C, one of my top favorite Wayans characters, hell, he's one of my top favorite TV characters!!! "Nonononononoseenow-Whyyy ya wanna go there with me now?" "This is bid-ness!". Dupree was hilarious too, fat guys are always funny!!! I'm white, hell, i'm a white rock-lover, and the wayans is for rap lovers, and i used to be a rap lover (pratically a wigger), and i got into the Wayans Bros. When i got out of rap and all the other black's sitcoms i used to watch (Malcolm & Eddie, Jamie Foxx, Martin), i still loved the Wayans Brothers, i don't know why. It's a show that can make ANYONE laugh, whether your a rap lover, a rock lover, a jazz lover, a techno lover, a pop lover, a folk lover, a funk lover, a disco lover, an avant garde lover, a cajun music lover, a world music lover, an opera lover, a country lover, a reggae lover, a new wave lover, an easy listening lover, a show-tunes lover, or even if you hate music completely!!!!!!!!
I dont see what's funny about the former DJ of 'In Living Color.' And the Tito Jackson of the Wayans family. From watching this show and seeing "Scary Movie" nothing! This show jumped day one!
The show never jumped because when you have three funny comedians ( Marlon & Shawn Wayans and John Witherspoon) alongside with T.C. (Phill Lewis) and Dee (Anna Maria Horsfored) the show should have reigned forever because it was quite obvious that they had almost 20 million people watching it and it was a huge mistake by the WB. It seem like anytime the Wayans family starts to have some success, they get cut right off in the end even without having a final episode. Hopefully that will not happen to Damon who is raking in almost 15 million (along w/ Bernie Mac) on Wednesday nights!!!!!!
This was the episode: Marlon meets a girl who has a child named Dexter. He hooks up with the broad because he wants to be a father you see.At one point he leaves Shawn to babysit the kid. When Marlon calls the crib to check in on dexter, the conversation goes like this: Marlon: "Where's dexter?" Shawn: "He's playing with these NUTS".Why Shawn,WHY?
I watched this show from 1995 until September 1997, when I saw how dumb it got. The first few seasons were SO funny, but EVERYTHING changed in September 1997, when Marlon got all uppity into the acting school and jobs, and I just wasn't digging Shawn anymore. I was so appalled by this show that I stopped watching after the season premiere in 1997. As for the marijuana, I'm glad I never saw that--I hate "very special" episodes.
The show got a little stale after the 1997-'98 season. The Wayans Bros. just became buffoons, just like another former "In Living Color" comic who had his own show on the WB at the time. It was just borderline stupid and not even funny anymore. And to the poster who used the word "wigger," you need to check yourself. There must be issues if you choose your television watching according to the genre of music you like at the time. One does not negate or coincide with the other.
I would say the show jumped when that one Wayans Brother (I confuse their names) became the token black guy on the show that needed a black guy to make the show more "realistic." I really think the show jumped when the smarter Wayans Brother became caught up in a plot straight out of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."
Never jumped! I love this show and have every episode (except one) on video tape. I really admire the entire family. To the person who stated the younger Wayans have no talent GET A LIFE, because you are soooo jealous (WANNABE ACTOR!) As far as the 2000 VMA's, I didn't see the show back but from the reviews I've read it's pretty much 60-40 in favor of Shawn and Marlon ALSO, it seems the negative comments were mostly directed towards the observance that the brothers did not rehearse before the actual night of the VMAs as opposed to not being funny.
This show never jumped to me. It was very, very silly on some episodes, but over all it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo funny. I think Marlon is very talented. He doesn't even need to try, it just comes natural. Shawn on the other hand, it looks like he's trying to hard. But he's getting alot better. I would love to go to Thanksgiving Dinner at the Wayans. You know it would be a laugh-fest with all those comedians at one table.
This show never, never, never jumped the shark. The Wayans bros is still the funniest thing ive ever seen. Shawn,Marlon, and pops are funny as hell when they're on screen. There is no show funnier then this 1 and 4 all the people how say that this shows not funny needs 2 get a sense of humor cause i havent laughed harder at any other show in my life (and i watch a lot of tv).
they never jumped, it's one of the funniest shows in recent history. but that is just my opinion. I always say that the Wayans (all the wayans, not just Marlon & Shawn) have a certain type of humor either you love them or you hate them.
Never jumped. The show was really funny and if rating fell then WB could have at least given them a final episode. Damn, four seasons just was not enough. John Witherspoon...hilarious
This show never jumped. Shawn and Marlon make the rest of the Wayans proud. I love Pops character because of the catch phrase "BANG, BANG, BANG!!!!!!! This show deserved to be on longer. What a shame.
I think the show did alright when Lela Rochon Exited and Paula Jai Parker became the new love interest. But when she left, Shawn dating a new girl every week just made the show worse. With a steady love interest we able to see that Shawn was the more responsible brother. Without one he became almost as goofy as Marlon.
THE WAYANS BROTHERS was a passable way to waste a half hour, nothing else. Sometimes the plots bordered on the ridiculous and often, Marlon Wayans and John Witherspoon were WAY over the top and I can't stand Anna Maria Horsford, but if nothing else was on, I would watch it. I wasn't crazy about the show but I can't think of a defining shark-jumping moment either.
