Question Facts of Life Boned the Fish When...

http://www.bonethefish.com/viewtopics.php?172

Quote:
The Facts of Life is an American sitcom that originally ran on the NBC television network from August 24, 1979 to September 13, 1988. A spin-off of the sitcom Diff'rent Strokes, the series' original premise focused on the character, Edna Garrett (Charlotte Rae), as she becomes housemother (and later, dietitian as well) to seven girls at the fictional Eastland School, a prestigious all-girls school in Peekskill, New York.

I don't think it ever boned the fish. I watched the complete series recently and was still invested in the characters through season 9. I think they ended it at the right time. Yeah, there were minor problems as the series progressed but it was still watchable despite them.

Confused "Boned"??

I thought the expression was "jumped the shark".

Hmm, in any case: Well, the inclusion of Pippa was pretty desparate. All sitcoms in need of a ratings boost (or supposedly in need of) do that, a fun, superfluous character for laughs.

That is the expression, he stole the concept and is trying to make this happen

It was pretty good until the end. I thought it was getting tired in season 7 with the edition of George Clooney and "Over Our Heads." But the show got good again after Cloris joined the cast. You could tell by the last year though that it was time to end it. It should have had a great big finale instead of a 2 parter for a series that never happened.

After Jo and Blairs' graduation, that should have been the end! This show went on WAY too long!

If it ended when they graduated, then I never would have seen it filmed live in 1987.

I agree, the addition of Pippa was a mistake. I couldn't stand that girl.

That's how I felt about Cloris Leachman's character. Don't get me wrong, she was funny... But honestly the girls were all grown and everyone could have gone their separate ways at that point. I felt like that's how the series should have ended, Edna doing the peace corps thing, nat to college for journalism, tootie to acting school, Blair staying and maybe doing law school then and Jo could also stay and finish her degree.

How realistic is it that these 4 young women (who weren't even the best of friends), would continue to live together, for so long? The show should have ended when Jo and Blair graduated, or when Charlotte Rae left the show.

Yeah, I think 'Beverly Ann' was added as a sort of semi-superfluous character off of which the girls could bounce ideas and jokes, and provide a sense of accomplishment who hadn't succeeded in the way her sister Edna had. So they added plot devices as adopting Andy and others. The "older sister" character.

We can thank TV Guide for "selling out" on the old Jump the Shark website and re-directing it to their site. Bone the Fish is a new term for it and it's meant to be a remake of the original site just with a new name.

I don't think the show ever "Boned the Fish" though the 9th season wasn't as good as the others. There were still some good episodes though even in that final season.

I don't quite agree with you on that one: JO & BLAIR may have quarreled a lot but they always stuck to each other whenever one of them was in trouble. As for TOOTIE & NAT: those 2 were equally close and had the best sense of humour lol! which is why the 4 of them remained in the same roof for so long
