This show has NEVER jumped, despite what some people think. It has always been hilariously funny (although it kinda rides on Seinfeld's coattails), and the only reason the Ross and Rachel thing ever started is because you HAVE to have romance every now and then and when it's between two main characters people can relate to it more!
The first time they broke up is ok I guessed, but why, why do that at every final epidode!!!
When Rachel and Ross started dating, falling in love, breaking up, yada yada yada. After the show was a hit, it was like all the actors knew it and said their lines with a "I know this is sooo funny" kind of attitude.
WHEN RACHEL STOPPED WORKING AS A WAITRESS AT THE CENTRAL PERK COFFEEHOUSE.
It was all about the monkey, there's a big hole in the show now.

When you COULD get enough of Pheobe's amusing wackiness, when Rachel turned into a complete bitch, when Ross's every mention of a lesbian exwife ceases to induce laughter, and, well, Joey and Monica were never that funny. Chandler still rocks the house.
Ross and Rachael date. that was a dumb idea, they date forever and don't get anywhere.
When Ross and Rachel broke-up. After that those two spent the entire 1997-98 season fighting with each other and the show has suffered ever since.
How can one jump from a valley?
Oh! Like you couldn't see it coming! The show decides to do a whole new season based on the puppy-dog love schmutz between Ross & Rachael. Not enought emphasis on Chandler & Monica. Hell, not neough emphasis on anything other that lame airport mix-ups!
Now this is absolutely the worst show of all time EVER, period!
Take five or six people who look like models that just walked out of a clothing store catalog. Make the situation that they all live in or near the same apartment and stuff words in their mouths that demographics indicate the widest majority of active consumers will find amusing. Add occasional non-risque social commentary which everyone will agree upon, mixed in with random foolishness about a monkey or whatever, and stir briskly. Then spend millions of dollars on publicity and advertising to convince the American people that Friends is THE sensational program EVER, and you got yourself a hit.
This has to be, without a doubt, the worst show in television history.
It is a scary thing to think that this lousy show is more popular than good shows were, such as "Diff'rent Strokes," "Police Squad!," and "Family Ties." I won't be there for them.
I don't know whose friends they are, but they ain't mine.
They're running out of couples to "date" each other. Pretty soon the roommates will start winking at each other.

This show sucked from day one. Schwimmer is the most annoying person on TV. Hey Davey, quit yer whining and start acting like a man. Why would any woman go for that cry baby. He acts the same way in his lame movies.

This show has never jumped the shark but it almost did at the beginning of this season when for the third time Ross and Rachel were the subject. I think they should put them together once and for all and then focus on Chandler and Monica. They are by far the better and funnier couple!
Maybe I'm on the outs with most people - but I did not give a damn (or to quote Esther Rolle 'damn, damn' damn') about Ross and Rachel. Out of all the cast theyre the two dullest and frankly deserve each other. Sorry kids that's just the way it is. Me personally I'd rather see Joey and Chandler get together, but I suspect I'm in a real minority here. Come to think of it Chandlers been looking a little slack-assed and dull the past few seasons. I really didn't pay any attention last year anyway. Just as long as Matthew (who looks much better in his film roles anyway) keeps up with his excellent comic timing and they keep devoting more of the show to the really great Phoebe.
When any minority character was shown in an episode. C'mon producers! You've worked so hard casting these WASP fashion models for the show, how could you let any coloured actors get written into an episode? It's a white, white world at NBC ever since The Cosby Show vacated... And don't you forget that!
It jumped when Rachel and Ross started dating. It jumped a second time when Chandler and Monica started dating. It will jump a third time when Phoebe and Joey start dating. They are missing out on an infinite number of story ideas, by not having them date outside the regular characters.
In 10 years, we'll all wonder why the hell we watched this show. Those bright colored sets, the hair, the tight tops the girls wear. We'll look on it like we look on the Partridge Family and the Brady Bunch now. I confess, I watch the damn thing every week, mostly because Courtney Cox is hot and Matt Perry is funny as hell. Good to see the funny guy get the best looking, albeit most annoying babe. At its best, this show was about the funny stuff young single people do and say with each other. On that level, it works. This is too many comments for one vote, sorry.
This show is my vote for the worst of all time. Second goes to "Saved by the Bell."
Friends has NEVER jumped the shark!!!!! I thought it had when the hole Rachel-Ross thing started to bore us, but now it's getting better and better in every episode. Friens is the best show ever. I'm sure Joey and Phoebe will get together somewhre in the future, but I REALLY hope it not to be soon, (1 couple is necessary, 2 is better, but 3 will be a really 'not-the-friend-type' thing). Anyway, I'd like to see them together some day (but let it for season nr. 10 or 11)
This show definitely jumped when Ross & Rachel became a couple, changing the show from "Friends" to "Immature Idiots".
I still watch the show all the time and everything but honestly, everyone knew it would never be the same if Rachel tried to get back together with Ross. I think once characters have called it quits, they should stay that way. Any other way and they just come off looking desperate.

Usually when a show introduces a minority it is pretty good, but who told NBC to do that? They haven't had a real black charater in years, who do they think they are fooling? No black, hispanic, native American or any other person can say this awful show.
I watched the rerun last night and was in pain watching ross act. **** he is terrible. He makes Joey look like Marlon Brando. Ross' only talent is to pout and look like a cute little puppy dog, but i would like to kick any dog that looks like ****ty-ass Ross.
Friends sucks. BTW, that turkey gag was blatantly stolen from Gimme a Break. Give me any episode of Gimme a Break over this piece of crap.

The ONLY reason this crappy show hasnt jumped is becuase of CHANDLER!!!! Chandler rocks and is the best on the show.
Gee, my first apartment after college looked nothing like the places these people live in. How can they afford them? Aside from Ross, and maybe Chandler (what exactly does he do at that office? Something about a "weenus"?) no way could they live in apartments like the ones they do; c'mon, Monica is a cook (excuse me, chef), Rachel was a waitress (then got that big promotion to dept. store employee), Joey is an out-of-work actor (most of the time), and Phoebe plays guitar occasionally (although have we ever seen her place? ) and was a surrogate mother (I don't know about her, but I would have demanded BIG bucks for carrying triplets, brother or not). These people live in one of the most expensive cities in the world! But I guess we wouldn't watch if they were poor and ugly. And speaking of the triplets! As an RN specializing in obstetrics, that delivery was pure fantasy. If anyone should ever have a baby on that show again, writers, I am speaking to you - please call me for a consultation. And to those of you who whine about the lack of racial integration on this show, get real; how many of us can really say our closest circle of friends is racially diverse?
How can a show jump when it has Jennifer Aniston and her great face and bod??? Courtney Cox runs a middlin' second: sometimes she's extremely hot, but just as often she looks like a rag doll that you found in the sewer and wouldn't touch with a ten-foot cattle prod. Have to agree, as well, that Matthew Perry is absolutely hilarious in this show; too bad he hasn't to translate that talent to the big screen ("Fools Rush In" was horrendous!) Lisa Kudrow can be fairly funny, too, but you can take LeBlanc and Schwimmer and perform retroactive abortions on them, for all I care. Hell, my grandfather could act better than they do, and he's been dead for 27 years.
Lisa Kudrow played one of Larry, Darryl and Darryl's wives on the last episode of Newhart. You think she'd learn something about quality TV with the experience there (ironically, her and her other sisters who were the other wives were so annoying that Darryl and Darryl yelled "QUIET!!!!!" They'd do it again if they saw this wretched program. Friends is no Newhart.)
This is a sorry ripoff of the Golden Girls with their grandchildren in it.
I think that about the 3rd time the writers resorted to using double-entendre "break-up" talk in a non--break up situation. For example, when Monica broke up with Allan and her friends were upset; when Joey asks Chandler about his new roommate; when Rachel asks Monica about going shopping with Julie..it's all relationship-talk and break-up talk....cute the first time, but they keep using it AGAIN and AGAIN. That's when I lost respect for the writing...

Has not yet jumped....But it will jump, when the writers finally hook up Joey and Phoebe, out of sheer process of elimination more than because of any chemistry between the characters! Remember, you heard it here first...Triple wedding to end the damn show! No unsatisfying "Wonder Years" ending here!
It hasn't jumped yet but they are approaching the platform. The whole plot of Chandler and Monica dating could be the beginning of the end. It isn't so much that they are dating. It's the trying to hide it from the other characters for an entire season. Now the other characters are finding out but can't say anything etc. etc. etc. This should have been over in 3 episodes. Episode 1 they sleep together. Episode 2 Joey finds out. Episode 3 Rachel finds out and tells everyone else. Everyone else is happy for them until they turn Chandler and Monica into Ross and Rachel 2.

Friends has yet to jump. The possibility is always there if the show continues to concentrate on the "couples". This season, the writing has been excellent, better than ever. I don't think they'll jump for a while. (at least, I hope not)
I'd have to say that I liked Friends for awhile, but it definitely JTS with Ross's constant "We were on a break!" crap every second. The second or third or fourth time he broke up with Rachael. It made me sick. Ross's whining is the real fault of the show. This season, Friends is a lot better, and I can only hope the Ross and Rachael thing never happens again.
according to me the show jumped when chandler and monica started having an affair, I'd rather see chandler and joey having an affair. btw chandler remains the best and funniest character.

It jumped when Chandler started doing Monica. Come out of the closet already Chandler! Look at his personality and the fact that he's dating the cast member who most resembles a BOY! (Ross and Joey included). Or maybe him coming out would make the show better. I mean he's dads supposedly gay. Maybe they can say its a heredity thing!

Believe it or not, I still don't support censorship after seeing this worthless crap. I just want to yell in their ears "You have desecrated the Cosby Show's time slot, now you will die!" But I'm a decent human being. If you want really funny TV, watch Newhart on Nick@Nite.
I don't like Friends either, but you talk about Newhart being funny and accusing this show lacking racial diversity; Newhart had no blacks on it either (not that many in Vermont, frankly), but it was still funnier than this or anything else on TV today, live action that is.
This show rocks!! Anyone who doesn't like it takes life to seriously and has no sense of humor!
I hate this freakin' show, and I have a great sense of humor and never take life seriously at all. Anybody who doesn't like this show is a rather intelligent person. If you want a show with non-related people living together, they're still showing The Golden Girls. Now THAT was good TV.
Friends died when the show got away from the lyrics in the theme song. "You're broke, you're life's a joke, your love life is DOA." They all have good jobs, they get out and mingle, and they are all getting some. 'Nuff Said?!?
When Ross said Rachel's name at the altar but preceeded to marry Emily anyhow. I still love the show, but less since then.
This used to be my favorite show, and like many others, I wanted Ross and Rachel to get together. When they finally did, however, the show lost it's sexual tension aspect. This current season, with the Monica/Chandler romance, some of that returned. But now that everyone knows, I've stopped watching again.
When they changed Phoebe from the strange Deadhead into the strange, non-threatening brand of trendy mainstreamer they changed the rest of the characters into. After the first season, Ross became a hollowed out gourd of a character, the women became nipple bra models and the feeling that these people were nothing but well-researched marketing figurines portraying Americans-that-never-were became apparent. It must have been frustrating for the creators and the writers to see their brilliant, sincere show turned into a mainstream yawn-a-thon full of two-dimensional cliches. And boy does that title song suck.
I think "Friends" has been funnier this season than it has been in the past. I do wish, however, that Ross and Rachel would get over their breakup already.
A nauseating piece of fluff that I watch a couple times a year because of the hotties in their tight clothes. I can't believe they don't have the guts to kill off Ross, what an annoying piece of feces and he does not add anything to the so called comedy like George did on Seinfeld. Chandler is O.K. but the whole show is way to fake.
Can someone explain to me how Phoebe, who by her own admission, lived in a box at one time, can now afford a place that likely runs $2000+ per month, yet she has no visible job? A doubt a masseuse lives in a place like she does. I can accept Chandler b/c he actually goes to A job and even Ross to some extent, however I think he is such a loser I wish he would die. Joey?? Come on, struggling actors don't live in 3,000 square foot apartments in NYC.

I don't think Friends really jumped the shark, but it's been close I think. One definite improvement would be to have someone FEED MONICA!!! Why do these actresses insist on being so thin? And how come only Phoebe and Ross can afford to have their own apartments. Does Phoebe even work anymore? Or Monica? I think Chandler's the only with job anymore.
Ross needs to get a little stronger, but they have had fun with his problems. Chandler and Monica are great together, unfortunately I missed a few shows this season and never got to see when Ross found out. Looking for it in reruns. Who cares if they shouldn't be able to afford the apartments. If I wanted real life I wouldn't watch TV. I watch TV for the fantasy of it.
98-99 season: they're all over 30, still the same old losers, and for some reason Rachel and Monica have decided to mimic Madonna's "Frozen" look. Ick. At the end of the London wedding cliffhanger, I would have said that this show had never jumped.
If I was an aquaintance of Ross, I would beat him to near death! He is the biggest wuss, What a whiner. I do like the rest of the cast, I feel they "meld" well together, he is just always the wimp. I think the worst example was when he was moping about his big wedding screw-up and Emily was in "hiding" and wouldnt speak to him, if I were Joey I would have slapped him!
When Ross said Rachel's name at his wedding and then tried to get back together with his "wife." Ross has become almost as "dumb" as Joey. At times, Joey actually seems intelligent.

are you people watching the same show i am? not only has friends been one of the 2 best written sitcoms this season (raymond is the other) but it does have minority charachters,monica and ross are jewish!!!!!also rachel might be too but they never made that clear.also sombody called them a bunch of waspy actors. Yet again Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer are Jewish.when last I checked jewish people are a minority in this country. The monica and Chandler romance has rejuvinated the show and they turned Joey from a stupid idiot into a goofball. The big disapointment is how anorexic Jennifer Aniston has become,she looks terrible.
I simply have no sympathy for the people who watch this crapola. As soon as they realize that NBC should replace its peacock with a turkey due to stinkeroos like this, then they will stop watching this painful program and read a damn book every once in a while.

There are reasons that people watch this show. Mental instability, weak sense of humor, stupidity, or believing that godam "Must See TV" statement is legally binding. I hate this show and everything about it.
I didn't watch this show for years, because it was the "hot" show and I usually avoid those like the clap. But I caught it in reruns and was surprised how well the story arcs change over time. These characters actually go through changes (how many shows can you *really* say that about?) without damaging the show. So what if Ross and Rachel did it? It's actually believable and funny because in true sitcom fashion, there are a few missteps on the road to romance -- and sadly, the road came to an end (and here, they didn't chicken out by having Rachel forgive Ross too quickly). Yes, the show has had bad episodes, but this year has had some of their best (and worst). The Chandler/Monica romance has breathed even more life in this show, precisely because they are such an odd, dysfunctional couple. Gives us nerds out there some hope (yes, I'm married, if you must know). No, Friends has not met Mr. Jaws yet.
Man I hate this f**kin' show. It is just the worst thing that ever happened to TV since Cop Rock and Full House. Now I gotta memorize episode titles for shows that I actually like, because this piece of disgusting **** calls them "The One Where..." or "The One With..." I'd love to see "The One Where they All Die and Go to Hell For making this Godawful show." NBC does not deserve to exist for putting it on. And all you stupid people who watch it, I got two words for you: Justifiable Homicide. The fact that this show has higher ratings than great shows of the past, such as "Taxi" or "Newhart" or "Maude" had, is appalling. I wish that monkey had given them Ebola. This show jumped the shark when Courteney Cox(sucker) was still on Family Ties. Now that was good TV.
Other than the unrealistic and unfounded high finance lifestyles of the cast, the show was realistic. But a duck and chick in a NYC apt.? And "chick" jokes only have so much mileage.

I've always liked Friends, since I started paying attention to it anyway. It's really cool that there's more than one storyline going on most of the time. And the lines are clever, it's always funny. But I really gained more respect for the show when the writers or whoever had the good taste to have Jennifer Saunders on the show for a couple of episodes, in the role of Emily's step-mom. I thought that was fantastic!!! I keep hoping Ross and Emily will get together again so Jennifer can make another appearance on the show. And, I don't think Friends has jumped shark yet.
What a sad, sad decline Friends had. For one season, it was the most original, verbal, brilliantly crafted, HONEST sitcom I'd ever seen. How many times did I think, "Yes! They got it right! That really IS what it's like to be in your twenties!" When Jim Burrows stopped directing after the first season, it became a drab cottage industry condescending minstrel show. What a waste.
Ross and Rachel did it. No longer a Comedy - now a Soap Opera.
Two times: First, must every piddling, boring non-event be prefaced by " OH MY GAWD". Second, the very loud and useless laugh track trying to tell the audience that " Hey we think this is funny (not) " I am not one of Pavlovs' dogs and I don't appreciate some script writer without a sense of humor or inability to create a truly funny joke to show me where I should laugh. I have laughed out loud many times watching Ally McBeal, they have excellent scripts (most of the time). Please Calista eat something.

Courtney's the hottest thing on TV but this show has no edge to it and it's unrealistic. She's supposed to be struggling, yet she wears Prada. Also, passing off Jewish actors as WASPS is nothing new-- George's fiancé on "Seinfeld" was supposed to be this old money Upper East Side NYC WASP (come ON). I think trying to pass Courtney Cox off as Jewish could possibly be funnier.
I've been catching a few episodes in syndication in recent weeks. Let's get something right for a change you Hollywood "sex sells" f***-wads. Straight women do not have sex with other women. They do not think about having sex with other women. They do not discuss nor do they joke about having sex with other women. This myth has been perpetuated by the porn industry and Hollywood sleaze merchants. This **** has snuck its way onto TV sitcoms (even Seinfeld) recently. Give me a break!
When at the end of the 97-98 season Ross utters Rachel's name when he is marrying Emily. Plus the 98-99 season they aren't even remotely toghether then all of a sudden Ross wants to marry her in Vegas.
Ross finally gets Rachel. To paraphrase Jack Lemmon in "Grumpier Old Men", I liked him better before he was gettin' any!
It stopped being funny. Also because Phoebe stopped playing the guitar. The episode with Phoebe and Chandler on a date was hilarious! After that, the show just fell downhill though. How come Monica and Rachel have NEVER fought? Also REAL friends would tell Phoebe she sucks at guitar, tell Joey he sucks at acting, settle the Ross-Rachel saga once and for all, and tell Monica to stop being so damn annoying!

I know there are plenty of little things about this show that are annoying and unrealistic, BUT it is still one of the best shows on the air (which says something about the major lack of quality on the air today). I do wish they could go a whole season without ever referring to the Ross & Rachel relationship, as it has dominated this show far too much. However, since they married them off, I guess that won't be happening anytime soon. Monica and Chandler make a better couple than the two of them. How soon before Joey and Phoebe get it on?
Ok...I hated Ross and Rachel. I like Joey, leave him alone. Chandler's funnier than hell. Phoebe is still nuts but loveable. Hate Monica and Chandler together. I always thought Monica and Joey should have been a couple ever since she saw him naked and offered him a glass of penis. I have recently stopped watching though. My computer is much more interesting.

Friends JTS when Chandler and Monica got married. Most of the characters have now just gotten really irritating (especially Monica).
Friends jumped the shark when all the characters started having relationships. Instead of being friends, they started going out. When the couples broke up, there was a lot of hostility. This didn't make sense since the show is suppose to be a comedy.
When Rachel became pregnant from Ross. The whole cast is getting too old to live together. They are all over 30. Comments: I used to love this show, now I just watch it becuase I have been a faithful viewer for 5 years.
When Joey "bought" a $20,000 sailboat at an auction. What ever happened to that sailboat? Does he still have it?
Rachel and Ross having a baby. EWWW! Having a baby on any show is a classic "jump the shark" but these two were so repulsively over years ago, the whole idea makes me squeamish. Now if only Bruce Willis had been the daddy...

Who watches this show - it absolutely sucks - I'm sorry let me rephrase - This show so sucks - It has so jumped the shark. I don't know what's more depressing - the fact that they talk like morons or the fact that people are still entertained by the same dialogue and language. Grow up people.
Friends will never ever jump the shark. There is no way. No matter how bad it can get, as long as people still watch the show it will be ok. I have watched it from day one. It is my favorite show in the world. If I am not home, I tape it, if I am home I tape it. It is just the best.
I was not sure that friends was still on until visiting this site. I gave up watching some time in the late seventies. So, let me get this straight, these guys are all middle aged, and still living in the same apartment complex. I assume Ross is still the most annoying human being on the planet. Once they turned down the A.C., and Rachel and Monica did not "poke through", there really wasn't a point in watching anymore.
