Jerry's Telethon Jumped the Shark two years ago when it was reduced from all night to just a few hours.

I used to remember when JL RULED the Telethon World. All other Telethons didn't even raise half as much money as his telethon. That all changed in 1988 when, for the first time an upstart called the Children's Miracle Network actually raised more money then Jerry Lewis's Telethon did. Both ran neck and neck for several years, but finally the CMN polled ahead for good. Oh well, nothing lasts forever. One day the CMN will find out they've got competition.

I wish Jerry Lewis was still involved.

I thought it was always on the ABC network. It seemed to me to be on all the ABC affiliates, anyway.

It was an ad-hoc network for the telethon--essentially syndicated to local stations, regardless of their network affiliations, if any.

It has always been on the local CBS affiliate here in NE Louisiana.

Nice to see the MDA Telethon getting some respect. What I mean by respect is the fact that I think Jerry Lewis was forced off the telethon, the fact that they reduced the number of hrs. of it, etc.

I will say if they really wanted to raise even more money for such a great cause, why not get some acts that people know. I mean if you look at some of the talent they have on there, I've never heard of a lot of these people. I would try to get some current talent, to raise even more money.

I was reading an article in "Broadcasting Magazine" from 1975 this weekend, and it said about 40% of the Love Network stations were ABC affiliates. So more than other networks, but not overwhelmingly so.

When I was living in Michigan The CBS Affiliate ran the Jerry Lewis Telethon while the FOX Affiliate ran the Children's Miracle Network Telethon.

Same here in Lansing, MI. The CBS affiliate here has aired it for over 40 years.

Going back to 1971 the NBC outlet in Pittsburgh ran the Telethon.
