TV Amber Tamblyn Cast as Charlie Harper's Daughter

"Two and a Half Men" Adds New Series Regular — Charlie Harper’s Long Lost Daughter
by NELLIE ANDREEVA
Wednesday May 29, 2013

Charlie Harper had an offspring?! CBS‘ "Two and a Half Men" will look more like "Two Guys and a Girl" next season. I’ve learned that the veteran comedy, which earlier this month was renewed for an 11th season, will introduce a new female series regular character next fall.

The role, a high-profile gig for a young actress, will bring in a major plot twist to the show: I hear the girl, in her late teens or early 20s, shows up on Walden Schmidt’s (Ashton Kutcher) doorstep searching for her father. She claims to be a daughter of the house’s previous owner, recently departed perennial bachelor Charlie Harper (Charlie Sheen).

I hear the girl will eventually move in with Walden and her uncle Alan Harper (Jon Cryer). The new character is expected to fill the void left by the departure of Alan’s son Jake as Angus T. Jones recently exited as a regular after 10 seasons on the show.

With the new addition, "Two and a Half Men" will have subbed two of the three characters in the title, following the successful transition from original leading man Sheen to Kutcher two years ago.

Shark jump #572, but they have to do something to freshen that rotting corpse of a show up. If they get the right actress and a decent storyline it could work. I doubt it will boost ratings but could maintain them. They need to put the show to sleep but it makes money even with 2 of the highest paid actors on TV. Every year they can get in means more new shows to sell into syndication also.

Cool

With the number of women Charlie Harper "hooked up" with it should come as no surprise that he has a long lost child. In fact it seems possible he could have a number of long lost children. However I agree that the intoduction of this character is a "jump the shark" momment for the series.

Haha good shows struggle while this piece of trash show lugs on. Unbelievable. Just get rid of it already. It'll live on forever in re-runs on literally every cable station in existence.

Fairly certain it's still on just because CBS is worried that once it cancels this and, 20 years from now, The Big Bang Theory, it'll be in just as much trouble as the other networks.

I definitely agree that adding Charlie Harper's long-lost daughter jumps the shark since it could also change the show's dynamics. On the positive side, it does fill the void left by the exit of Angus T. Jones and opens up broader storylines.

Default This Just In: TWO AND A HALF MEN Officially Jumps the Shark

http://www.thetvaddict.com/2013/07/1...mps-the-shark/

Quote:
True to their word from last May, TWO AND A HALF MEN producers have begun to address their veteran show’s recent ratings slide by commencing the search for a young female actress to join the ranks. More interestingly still, according to a casting scoop from E! Online, “the the pivotal new role of Charlie Harper’s (Charlie Sheen) illegitimate daughter has been written as 21 years old, ‘sexy and gorgeous,’ and gay. The new character, Jenny, will share many traits with her deceased father, including her love of women.” As such, we here at theTVaddict.com would like to take this opportunity to reiterate our plea that the only way we’ll support such a blatantly jump-the-shark-esque manoeuvre is if the writing staff show a sense of humor about it and names the new character Olive.

Dear lord, please just put this show out of its misery already. It's been on since 2003, is on DVD and is a hit in syndication - what more do they want??

These additional episodes will be almost a sure sell into syndication. As long as they can get the new character cheaply with Alan's mom, son, girlfriend and ex-wife out and Berta seen less the show will draw enough ratings to be profitable or at worst break-even and syndication will still be all profit. For CBS it beats risking a shot at an unknown entity.

I agree it probably should have ended with Charlie leaving. I was just pointing out that many people in decision making roles have too much money to gain until ratings finally tank or the lead actors decide to depart.

If they had to give Charlie Harper a long-lost child, wouldn't it have made more sense for it to be a son, given the title of the show?

If there's too much "shark jumping" in Two and a Half Men, I hope this show's ratings plummet during the upcoming 11th season.

Chuck Lorre: "Two and a Half Men" Will Have Less Testosterone in Season 11
7/29/2013
by Lesley Goldberg

CBS' "Two and a Half Men" may be losing the "half man" of its title when star Angus T. Jones reduces his role but that's not all that will be different when season 11 of the Chuck Lorre comedy returns in the fall.

As the comedy looks to revamp following Jones' decision to focus on attending college, the comedy is currently searching for a new female lead to play Charlie's (Charlie Sheen) long-lost daughter.

The character, Jenny, is described as Charlie's illegitimate daughter, who according to a casting breakdown, is 21-year-old who uses her hotness when she needs to. She enjoys being in control and likes everything that her father did -- including women -- and arrives in L.A. from New York in a bid to jumpstart her showbiz career.

Speaking to reporters Monday at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour, where he was there to support his upcoming Anna Faris comedy Mom, Lorre said the addition of a lesbian character will change one major aspect of "Men".

"I think it would be great have that voice on the show from a different perspective," he said. "The show has had enough testosterone to last a lifetime."

While casting is under way to fill the role, Lorre said the addition has allowed the writers to create a character who can stand toe-to-toe with "Men's" stars.

"Part of the fun in this has been creating a character that is equal to the task of stepping on the stage with Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher. That's a big job," he said, noting the role is being flushed out first before it's cast.

"The idea of the character brings a healthy amount of decadence, which is always fun on Two and a Half Men."

Lorre stressed that there were no announcements coming -- yet -- for an actress to fill the role, he did seem open to one name to play Jenny's mother, who is unhappy with her daughter heading West.

"I haven't given it any thought. I guess she's available, huh?" he said of the idea of casting ousted "Anger Management" star Selma Blair. "She's a good actor."

CBS renewed "Men" in April for an 11th season, with Jones' role reduced to a recurring status as the 19-year-old attends college -- something that Lorre champions as the young actor has spent more time on a TV set than school.

"It's really commendable that he wants to make that the next part of his life," Lorre said, acknowledging Jones' controversial remarks aimed at the show that made him a star. "He misstepped last year and it's just not fair to judge him on that. I certainly hope he comes back from time to time. But for now he's embarking on a new life."

Ultimately, Lorre is optimistic that Jones will return for season 11 in some capacity.
