Default So...how about a Reboot Star Trek: TNG cast?

Let's say for some reason in a future one of these Star Trek movies, they decide to have this new version of the original series cast meet a Next Generation cast...but they decide to recast the Next Generation cast with new actors completely.

Who do you think would fill the parts?

The friend of mine had two choices:

Councilor Troi: Morena Baccarin

Captain Picard: Tom Hardy (Bane from The Dark Knight Rises)

What do you think?

Keep in mind, this is a new universe and timeline with new rules, so ages and such can be shuffled slightly.

Exactly and official fan.proboards isn't a site I'd waste my time with.

Cool

I'd rather stick with my DVD's of the original Next Gen. cast!

Default If the prequel/reboot Star Trek universe ever gets to TNG

If they get to a rebooted TNG series, I so want it set in something like Track A of the Peter David novel, Q-Squared.

Quote:
Let's sum up the differences:

Picard had managed to save Jack Crusher's life in the away mission that killed him in the old timeline.

As a result, Jack was still alive as little Wesley was a wee little boy. Filled with love for his father, one day the budding genius climbed the tallest tree he could in order to send his father a message. That message did not get sent, unless the message was supposed to be "Splat!"

Jack threw himself into his career to deal with his grief, neglecting Beverly in the process and forcing her to deal with her grief all alone.

Remember the incident that begat the Picard Maneuver? In this setting, Picard was a little slow and Jack, as first officer, stepped in and saved the day with the Crusher Maneuver, which obviously was the same trick. Saving the day led to Jack getting on the fast track to promotion and led Picard to be court martialed.

While Picard was on Earth being court martialed, he and Beverly had an affair. Jack never knew about it, but the guilt ate at Picard. Once his trial was over and he was demoted, he took the first off-world assignment that was offered to him so that he had an excuse to end the affair.

At the start of the book, it is Jack that is the captain of the new flagship, the Enterprise. Jack pulled a few favors and got Starfleet to bring Picard back up to the rank of Commander to fill in as XO. Beverly had pursued her career after her divorce from Jack and was assigned to the Enterprise (though at the beginning of the book, she had not yet started the post). She accepted the post because it was too prestigious to pass up and was not about to be deterred by possible conflicts with her CO. Jack accepted her being posted as well. As he explained to Picard, "I just don't want to put myself in the position of taking on a CMO who's not the best. Because the very first time a crewman dies, I'll start second-guessing myself that maybe Beverly could have made a difference. Wouldn't matter if God himself came down, looked at the dying crewman, and said, "Sorry...nothing I can do to help, I'm afraid." I'd still be thinking, "Damn...should have had Beverly aboard." (Yes, I reached over to my bookshelf to grab the book to make sure I got that quote perfect)

If Picard is XO, what of Riker? Well, as hard of a time that Picard and the Crushers had, it was a dream compared to Riker's recent past. He was a sure bet to beat Kirk's record for youngest captain in Starfleet history when he was captured and held prisoner in a joint Cardassian/Romulan research facility. There, he apparently was the prize subject in the study of physical and mental torture resistance. He is rescued in the middle of his own latest escape attempt by Worf, head of the House of Mogh, and his men. Worf is a firebrand in the Klingon Empire, on the fast track to claim a seat in the High Klingon Counsel. Worf was leading that raid because the lead Romulan researcher at that facility had been an observer for the Tal Shi'arr at the battle that killed Mogh.

As the story in the novel started to progress (before Q and Trelane started making things all wonky), Worf was being given a ride by the Enterprise as he personally escorted Riker back home to his family home on Betazed (Starfleet sent the Enterprise rather than some less important ship in order to impress the potential future Chancelor and get on his good side). Riker's wife, Deanna Troi Riker, and his son (who was born after Riker's capture), had hopped a bunch of flights to join the rather broken Riker on the trip home.

Other major changes is that LaForge has cloned eyes. The time spent getting the procedure done and the recovery time afterward inspired him to get into the medical profession. Rather than Chief Engineer, he is Head Nurse and Beverly's right hand man. Tasha Yar is the head of security, and is not so secretly in the middle of a torrid affair with Lt. Commander Data, apparently not bothered by the fact that he is a humanoid (human body, robot brain).

There's plenty of fondness for "Star Trek: The Next Generation" for me! I LOVE that series. It's probably my favorite Star Trek series of all (though I enjoy all of them.)
But after seeing the recast Star Trek movies that J.J. Abrams has made thus far that I haven't been terribly impressed with- I don't really want to see any more recasting done. Just make a seperate set of Star Trek movies and/or TV series with a totally different ship, crew and cast- or leave it alone.
Though I wouldn't mind seeing a joint Star Trek movie that brought all of the remaining cast together- the crew members from Star Trek (the original series) [at least ones that it would make sense for them to be there], Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Enterprise. And I'd love to have John de Lancie as Q in there somewhere too.
