TV NBC Renews "Community" for 5th Season

School's Not Out: NBC Renews "Community"
by Michael Ausiello
5/10/13

Six seasons and a movie? Not so far-fetched after all!

NBC has renewed death-defying cult fave "Community" for a fifth season, TVLine has confirmed.

No exact word on episode count, but 13 is the number being bandied about (that would put it within striking distance of syndication-friendly 100.)

Though NBC canceled a bunch of shows today, and renewed "Parks and Recreation," "Community" is one of several shows that remain in limbo for at least another day. So this could be the series finale, or it could just be another season finale. If we hadn't already gotten the original "Introduction to Finality" — which, in hindsight, Harmon very clearly wrote as the end of the series, as far as he was concerned — I'd be more irked at the idea that the show might end this way. As it is, it's the culmination of a season that tried really hard, occasionally hit the mark, was often on the outer edges of the target and here wound up eight zip codes away from the bullseye.

Though honestly, if I had to put money on it, I'd bet on one more season. And when you consider where NBC was at the start of this season — when they were desperate to get rid of niche-y shows like "Parks" and "Community" in favor of series like "Go On" and "New Normal" that they insisted would appeal to a broader audience — and then realize there's a chance that the two old shows might return and the two new ones might not, it's pretty hilarious. Regardless of my feelings about this season — which I genuinely did like at times — I'd almost root for renewal just for that.

And if it does come back, I'd hope that Port and Guarascio (or whoever's running it if they decide to be one-and-done) try to just do their own thing with these characters. Because I don't think I'd have the heart to watch a lot more of what we got tonight.

They ARE renewing it --- if you're not a fan - don't watch - if you are a critic - who the f cares.

Default Community: 5 Reasons To Be Excited For Season 5

http://whatculture.com/tv/community-...r-season-5.php

So it’s actually happened. Community – against all odds – has officially been renewed for a fifth season. Since its inception, it has endured an ever-shrinking audience, delays, hiatuses, clashes between showrunner and a certain *cough cough Chevy Chase cough* actor, and eventually a complete change out of executive producers and showrunners.

And while this resulted in an uneven and fairly mediocre fourth season, we still have reason to be happy that this under-appreciated sitcom has gotten another lease on life. Why?

Default What NBC did is known as....

...the "'SCRUBS' gambit".

Ten years ago, "SCRUBS", appearing on the same night- and just as unconventional- was getting about the same ratings {perhaps a little more}, even though they followed "FRIENDS". But the network realized the series attracted a small but loyal audience, who just happened to be the kind of demographic advertisers crave....and they desperately need. Even now.

Default Community Season 5: 5 Things We Want To See

http://whatculture.com/tv/community-...ant-to-see.php

Quote:
So. Community, season 4. It kind of stunk, didn’t it? Which is weird because it had all the right elements, it was just missing that odd, indescribable spark that makes the show what it is.

Watching season 4 was like watching a group of amateur musicians covering your favorite band. It’s still the same songs you know and love, but somehow they’re just not any good.

What was missing? Why, Dan Harmon of course! Which is why all the world’s Human Beings are so happy he’s back for season 5! But after the major disappointment that was the fourth season, there’s a few things we want – nay, need – to help make sure the next season meets expectations. What are those? Well, for starters we want…

It's been said that the NBC series "Community" should have "Six Seasons And A Movie". Really? I get the idea of the comedy series running for six seasons, but how is "Community" actually gonna have a movie? Someone should explain this "Six Seasons and a Movie" notion.

"Stay Safe"? More like "Stay Sad".

There was an episode of "Community" where one of the characters (Abed) was a big fan of the TV show "The Cape" (it was shown as a flashback sequence) and he said there would be six seasons and a movie. Of course, the joke being that "The Cape" only lasted a season.

So the idea stemmed from that joke and the fans have since applied that to "Community." It's really a one time joke that the fans made into a big thing.

A one-hour wrap-up episode will probably do, rather than an actual movie.

i think most fans would be happy if they just made enough episodes for syndication and were allowed to do a proper finale for the series.
