Default Kirk Cameron: One of the biggest celebrity "scumbags"?

His holier than thou control-freak attitude ruined Growing Pains and cost a lot of people their jobs.

Sounds like a scumbag to me.

I don't know why everyone was so mad at him. All he did was speak the truth. I agree with him wholeheartedly.

Cool

So many celebrities using drugs, alcohol, dumping their girfriends via Twitter etc. and Kirk Cameron is a scumbag?!? Mr. Cameron is one of the few celebrities who doesn't fall under that particular definition!

Amen to that! Agreed. I can't stand when people are selective with their judgment of others so that it fits their level of convenient opinion. He is one of the nicest guys out there. Yes, in the beginning when he discovered Christ, he went down that same road many new Christians go down with the holier than thou attitude. He needed to grow and mature and he has been over time and I commend him for that. We have a lot of people doing a lot of sick and crazy things in this world but they will still get more love than Kirk and that is really sad. I give Kirk props for being who he is in Christ and as a man of integrity.

Well, the author of that quote is entitled to their opinion of course, but I don't share it. Sounds more like ancient history to me that people can't seem to move on from.
Kirk Cameron has apologized for all this and his castmates have forgiven him and moved on (see the "Growing Pains" cast appearance on Larry King Live back in 2006 and the cast reunion on the Season 1 DVD set.)
I don't always agree with everything Kirk Cameron says or does, but I do respect him as a Christian man who makes a stand for Christ and particularly since he's a Christian in Hollywood, which seems to be a hard place to do this sometimes.

Obviously I haven't met him personally, but I think Kirk Cameron is a good person and although his religious views might be overwhelming and even offensive to some, it's just his way of expressing his personal views. I remember seeing him on TV pleading with Andrew Koenig to make his way back home when Andrew was missing. I know it devastated him when they found Andrew dead in Vancouver. That was awful and I can't even imagine what that felt like; losing a friend in such a tragic manner.

Yes, that was quite sad. It was good to see Kirk making an effort to reach out to his friend; I can't recall now, but I do believe I remember that he and his family were there to offer comfort to the Koenigs and that is certainly a good Christlike thing to do.

I have probably already stated this, but I'll say it again anyways.

I don't have a problem with someone being on the right. It's their choice. The problem with Kirk Cameron is that he is too far-right for my tastes. He thinks Playboy Magazine is a product of Satan. Well, there are plenty of people here who enjoy Playboy Magazine. Should they go to hell for that? Even I'm not ashamed to say that I like checking out Playboy once in a while. Doesn't mean I worship Satan.

And also, just because a female model or actress appears in Playboy, doesn't mean she worships Satan.

I don't pay attention to his personal life at all. I find that when I start wanting to know more about an actor/actress I always end up finding out more than I wanted to. But that being said, I did watch the movie he made with his wife a while back and found it enjoyable. Not a favorite movie of mine, but it wasn't bad.

I don't know if Kirk Cameron fits the psychiatric sense of "nuts", but he definitely has issues. He is an arrogant and overly opinionated person. I think part of the problem with Cameron was that he thought that because he was famous (in effect, he perhaps started to really believe his own press so to speak), he could do whatever he wanted. He tended to see, and perhaps still does given recent rants about homosexual marriage, the world as black and white.

He seemingly has no tolerance for people who have other points of view. He also pretty much, saw anyone who didn't share his views as a bad immoral person. Just because someone has no religious convictions does not mean they are bad people.

Kirk is entitled to his own set of principles. He can live his life under whatever moral guidelines he wants. However, that a co-worker once LEGALLY posed nude for a magazine was none of his business. It had absolutely nothing to do with him. He was just another actor on the show - it was not his place to determine who was "moral" enough to have a role on the show.

Kirk Cameron had been working as a professional actor for many years at that point, and so he most certainly should have been aware as to how a professional behaves. He did what he did because he is in all likelihood, a very odd person.

Growing Pains is a classic case of giving someone--especially someone who was as young as Kirk was at the time--far too much power on the strength of his popularity by allowing him to dictate storyline and casting changes. One reason why they started to change Mike's character was because of Kirk's reservations about him. In effect, they killed potentially good storylines before they ever got off the ground to appeal to Kirk Cameron's ego.

Kirk Cameron besides not caring too much about gay people apparently doesn't have too "politically correct" things to say about blacks either:
Quote:
Ever since starring in Left Behind, Cameron has enthusiastically embraced the Christian Reconstructionist worldview, a worldview that Foster has long promoted through the World History Institute...

Heirloom Audio Productions specializes in creating audio dramas based on stories by G.A. Henty..... he “turned to the adventure books of G.A. Henty for rich, exciting story material.” Henty lived from 1832-1902 and was, ironically, a universalist and racist evolutionist who wrote popular historical adventure stories. Despite his beliefs in universalism, white supremacy, and evolution, conservative Christians who fetishize the U.S. Antebellum South (like Doug Phillips and Marshall Foster) have long adored Henty’s books, which are ripe with defenses of southern slavery, idyllic depictions of slaves adoring their masters, and thickly patriarchal gender roles.

He has stated that he liked the project because it makes “people look biblically at the subject of slavery, and to understand that there were good and godly men on both sides of this war [the American Civil War].” In the book, the main character Vincent is a Confederate supporter who fights against the Union. Though the character initially finds slavery repugnant, Vincent learns from his father that not all slave owners are bad and that some slaves like being enslaved. “There are good plantations and bad plantations,” the father tells Vincent, “and there are many more good ones than bad ones.” Throughout the book, Henty as narrator (and through his characters) defends the institution of slavery. He lambasts “Mrs. Beecher Stowe” (abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin), accusing her of “libel” against the South. Henty writes that, “Taken all in all, the negroes on a well-ordered estate, under kind masters, were probably a happier class of people.” http://homeschoolersanonymo us.org/2...y-audio-drama/

I get a kick out of people who view Kirk Cameron as intolerant. There is nothing more intolerant than the extreme left. Just check out any college campus.
