Why can't "Happy Endings" find success on network TV? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Is the ABC sitcom's struggles a sign that network television is no longer where it's at when it comes to comedies?

I just don't think Happy Endings is a show meant to be a mass appeal hit, as much as I love it. The pace is really fast - you have to actually sit down and give it your full attention or you'll miss way too much. It's a "you're going to have to watch it 3 times to catch everything" type of show. Not everyone is into that kind of TV viewing, although tons of people (like me) live for it. It's the same reason 30 Rock was never a mainstream hit - the difference is NBC realized it wouldn't be and kept it in safe timeslots for most of its run, allowing it to last 7 seasons. ABC didn't do the same with Happy Endings. They expected it to be an anchor and it unsurprisingly faltered.

I read a few of the comments on the original post and I agree with the ones who gave it a few episodes and turned it off. As much as people say this is a great show, I think its horribly unfunny. It really irks me when some say its 'the next Friends' - what an insult to one of the best sitcoms of all time. I know the show has its loyal fanbase, but personally, I think its a bad show.

I think the show is hilarious, my favorite character is Penny and Jane. ABC doesn't care about its shows this was doing well on Tuesdays then they changed the time slot. What did they expect?
