All Former "View" Co-Hosts To Reunite for Barbara Walters' Tribute
Barbara Walters To Retire in 2014
by EW Staff Mar 29 2013 Cue Simon and Garfunkel’s 'Bookends': Barbara Walters is expected to retire in 2014. EW has confirmed that Walters, 83, will sign off from ABC in May 2014. A series of specials are set to air that will pay tribute to her long career in broadcast news. Walter’s decision to retire comes at a time when the 17-year-old "The View" is preparing to make significant changes. Joy Behar announced that she was leaving the network talk show at the end of the season, and rumors persist that Elisabeth Hasselback may join her out the door. Walters co-created the show in 1997. http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/03/29/ba...etire-in-2014/ |

The first time I remember seeing her was when she was on the today show. I remember seeing her on it before I went to school.

She's had an amazing career and I do enjoy watching her. I'm not a fan of "The View" at all but I have watched it many times. It seems that my favorite people like Harry Connick Jr and David Hyde Pierce land interviews on that show more than any other and that's the only reason I will watch it. But I hope that Barbara enjoys her retirement!

She is good looking gal for 82. She was brunette in her early days and now a blond. Looks nice as a blond. I wonder how long ago she went blond. Color tv time?? Is she giving up hosting tv her specials too.

ABC Announces Barbara Walters' Last Day, Week-Long Series of Events to Honor Her
Apr 7, 2014 by Robyn Ross Barbara Walters will officially vacate her chair on "The View" on Friday, May 16, ABC has announced. As part of her final scheduled appearance, the network has planned a week-long series of events. Following her last day as co-host, ABC will air a two-hour special (May 16 at 9/8c), ABC: A Barbara Celebration, honoring the broadcasting icon and trailblazer. Finally, ABC News Headquarters in New York City will be named in her honor during a dedication ceremony. "In this business there are legends, there are icons, and then there is Barbara Walters," Robert A. Iger, Chairman and Chief Executive of The Walt Disney Company, said. "She's a dear friend and colleague as well as someone I deeply admire, and it's impossible to fully convey her impact and influence on television. She broke barriers, defied convention, made history and set the standard for journalistic excellence for more than 50 years. It's hard to imagine television without her." Walters began her career as a writer and then on-air reporter for "Today" in 1961. In 1974, she became the show's first female co-host. She later joined ABC News in 1976 and launched daytime talk show "The View" in 1997. http://www.tvguide.com/News/Barbara-...y-1080173.aspx |

Walters, says Alex Pareene, is "is a national icon and a pioneer, and probably as responsible as any other living person for the ridiculous and sorry state of American television journalism." Read more at http://www.hitfix.com/tv-tattle#yDgmAGALrXkSQA04.99 |

"The View" to Reunite All 11 Co-Hosts — Elisabeth & Rosie Included! — for Barbara Walters Tribute
by Michael Slezak 4/16/14 Reunited and it feels so… contentious? Nah, probably not — unless there’s a spontaneous “Hot Topics” segment on politics or religion or vaccines. In any event, "The View" will gather all 11 past and present co-hosts on one stage on Thursday morning, May 15 (11/10c) for a live celebration of the show’s creator/legendary newscaster Barbara Walters, who will retire from daily television the following day. The former "View" co-hosts slated to appear on the installment are: Meredith Vieira Star Jones Joy Behar Debbie Matenopoulos Lisa Ling Rosie O’Donnell Elisabeth Hasselbeck According to a network release, "The View" will commemorate Walters’ final week (May 12-16) with ABC: A Barbara Celebration, featuring surprise guests, dedicated segments, and retrospectives of Walters’ life, both on screen and off. Walters isn’t completely retiring, of course: She’ll continue in the role of "The View‘s" executive producer alongside Bill Geddie, her producing partner of more than 25 years. http://tvline.com/2014/04/16/the-vie...rs-retirement/ |

Big TV Interviews still exist these days — like Anderson Cooper’s interview this week with Donald Sterling — but they don’t get the kind of ratings Walters’ interviews got. For instance, 50 million watched her interview with Monica Lewinsky. PLUS: Recalling Walters’ biggest interviews, how Walters made celebrities cry, and Walters avoids being tripped up in “Her Story."
