TNT’s ‘Dallas’ Returns With Series Low
By DOMINIC PATTEN | Tuesday January 29, 2013 @ 7:01pm PSTT

They did not have a good night at Southfork last night. The season two premiere of Dallas on TNT was down Monday almost 60% in terms of viewership from the reboot’s season one debut last June. Starting at 9 PM, Dallas pulled in just 2.98 million viewers compared to the 6.9 million who welcomed the return of the Ewings in the less crowded summer. That’s a series low for the new Dallas. Last night’s two-hour premiere was also significantly down from the 4.3 million who watched the season one finale on August 8. Among Adults 18-49, the season two premiere brought in 1.02 million viewers, down 27% from its season one average. Dallas pulled in 1.22 million viewers in the Adults 25-54 demo on Monday. That was a big drop from the 2.5 million in the demographic who watched the series premiere on June 13, 2012. It was also a 32% fall from the season one average. For its first season, Dallas averaged 4.5 million viewers in live plus same day delivery, with 1.4 million adults 18-49 and 1.8 million adults 25-54. The second season of Dallas has a 15-episode run, much of which will likely be without its villain J.R. Ewing played by Larry Hagman. The actor passed away on November 23, 2012 while filming the second season in the Texas city. Hagman is expected to appear in only the first six or so episodes of Dallas’ season two.

I taped it and have yet to watch it. The thing is it comes on at 10 pm here. That is too late.

I can't see the show lasting much longer after Larry's last appearance. I want to see how they write him out.

Bringing the show back in January rather than summer was probably not the best idea. I saw almost no promotion for the return and February sweeps are coming up with lots of shows competing with "Dallas". It should have remained a well-promoted summer series IMO. Larry Hagman's passing may be more than the show can handle even though his role was limited and I'm sure they were going to slowly increase the role of the younger actors as the older one's slowed down. Hagman gave the show an anchor and gravitas which now passes along that torch to Patrick Duffy who can handle it as far as being a strong actor, but the Bobby character is just no J.R. I think the show can survive if TNT will make the decision to move it back to off-season but now getting back any lost audience during this season will be tough especially without Larry. TNT made a major mistake moving it to January and also in not having enough promotion is a secondary reason.

I think that it might get a season three but it may not go any further than that. That is just my opinion. I hope I am not wrong.

When determining the ratings, do they consider those that record or DVR it,or watch another airing of it, or watch it on HULU?

I don't know if the revival will survive without Larry Hagman. I guess only time will tell, but I don't think it will.

Very dumb move by TNT and the ratings for this weeks episode are even worse than last weeks. I forgot that it was on last night. I just happened to be flipping channels and caught the rerun. I don't think it will last much longer and without JR I only see the ratings getting worse.

Yea ratings are on the bubble now. I think they'll really drop after JR's funeral. Not only that, The Voice will be back at the end of March. I thought the show would at least make it to a third season, but I'm not sure now.

Sure, the ratings are low now, but they will spike once J.R. gets shot again.

Ratings up slightly from last week. Back to about the season premiere ratings. At least it stopped dropping.
