That's what one former NBC News exec says, anonymously: "This problem is not going to go away until Matt Lauer does. He’s great, but fairly or unfairly, his brand is damaged." |

I still don't know why GMA is considered so popular because to me they come across as GOOFY not necessarily a family

November 14, 2012, 5:45 PMComment Deputy at ‘Today’ Show Is Promoted to Executive Producer By BRIAN STELTER Don Nash, a 23-year veteran of the “Today” show, will become its executive producer, NBC News said on Wednesday. The announcement, which was made at a staff meeting, put an end to widespread speculation about a leadership change at the beleaguered morning show, which lost in the ratings to ABC’s “Good Morning America” this year for the first time since the mid-1990s. Mr. Nash will replace Jim Bell and will report to Alexandra Wallace, who will be the new executive in charge of “Today.” The New York Times reported this week that Ms. Wallace would be installed atop the show. At the staff meeting on Wednesday, the NBC News president, Steve Capus, described Mr. Nash as the day-to-day producer of the show and Ms. Wallace as the person with “front office” responsibility for it. The arrangement mimics one that was put in place in 2005. Back then, Mr. Bell was the executive producer and an MSNBC executive, Phil Griffin, was the executive in charge. The new leadership team will take charge on Dec. 1. Mr. Bell, who had a second job this year as the executive producer of NBCUniversal’s Olympics coverage, will move into that role full time. Mr. Nash, a former NBC page who has been Mr. Bell’s top deputy since 2005, is widely liked among the rank and file at “Today.” He has run the show in Mr. Bell’s absence before, including for a long stretch this summer before and during the Olympics. “It is impossible to get bored on this show,” he said in a telephone interview, explaining his affection for the morning format. He dropped no hints on Wednesday about what changes would be in store for “Today,” which fell behind “Good Morning America” in the ratings for the first time in April and slid further after the co-host Ann Curry was replaced by Savannah Guthrie in June. But, he said, “We are constantly changing and constantly looking for new ideas.” NBC confirmed on Wednesday that Ms. Wallace, along with her “Today” show responsibilities, would remain the executive producer of “Rock Center With Brian Williams,” the prime-time news magazine that started last year. |

They are warm, sweet, light-hearted, and fun!!! The co-hosts have great chemistry with one another!! You get the sense that they truly care about each other on and off camera. They don't take themselves too seriously. If that's goofy, then I'll take my breakfast with goofy in the morning!! I miss Robin Roberts though, and wish her a speedy recovery!!!

i've never been a fan of Matt Lauer - he just comes across as a smug jerk to me, and he seems more fake than friendly.

Matt, Willie and Al are funnier then both Josh and George. No one can beat Matt Lauer except for Charlie Gibson. Matt is the best Morning show host in my opinion. He is funny and He is a Good Interview granted he is not the same Matt that we grew to like 15 Years ago but he is still better and the best in the Morning. Al is funny and the same old Al we grew to like years and years ago. Savannah and Natalie are more then just a piece of Eyes Candy, They are both smart and Good interviewers. Have you ever seen Savannah get tough on a politician or a Lawyer? She has really grown into the role and I like her and Natalie as well. They all have their Flaws like GMA (Including Robin!) but they are still better. Willie is Funny and is a Good Interviewer and he does not take himself to serious like George to Josh. I would rather watch TODAY Show over GMA anyday. They have fun and can laugh at themselves, They are more Human. They have Good chemistry and lot of Energy especially now with Willie Geist! The only time I ever watch GMA is when Katie Couric is on! We all know that Paven hates all of NBC with a passion... |

The first three hours of Today are still my usual go-to morning show right now. I always love my daily dose of Natalie Morales and/or Savannah Guthrie in the morning (even if one of them has a day off for whatever reason from time to time).

And as for Today vs. GMA battle, you kept saying Today would take over the ratings after the Olympics were over, but that didn't happen. We all have our opinions, but you said it yourself that you don't watch GMA at all except for one Couric is on, so how would you know how GMA is everyday? I watch both. Even people inside at NBC think Today is horrendous right now (hence all the behind the scene changes...). And the atmosphere outside the Today show is not energetic as it used to be all on regular days compared to what is going on outside the GMA studios everyday (better crowds, more talk, etc). And yep, I am by each show every morning. It's fine you like Today better, but don't knock GMA because clearly they are doing better in the ratings and people are talking about it much more. Today had their 15 years and they are not what they used to be at all. |
