WHy did Zulu leave Hawaii Five-0? And did anyone know he was in a movie MST3K made fun of called, "CodeName Diamondhead"?
Zulu as Kono was a cool character. Also, is that Kono any related to the current Kono on the new Hawaii Five-0? |

I've read somewhere, possibly on the Hawaii Five-O website, that supposedly Zulu made some racial slur to someone and Jack Webb didn't like it and had him fired from the show.

That video proves just repeats the same garbage that has been told over the years, with no verification. Zulu did make anti-Semitic remarks to the publicist and he wrote an apology that was printed in the Hawaiian newspapers of the time. No one apologizes for something they didn't do.
Jack didn't do anything to him. Zulu didn't like that he wasn't getting much to do and blamed it on Jack because he was an easy target. Leonard Freeman, the executive producer, was only on the set 4 times a year, so there wasn't much opportunity to go near him. I spoke to Bernie Oseransky, the production manager on Hawaii Five-O, and several writers who worked on the show's early seasons, like John D.F. Black, Jerome Coopersmith, and Arthur Keane. The writers told me that they conferred with Leonard Freeman on the scripts and Jack Lord had no input in them. They all visited the set as well and Jack did control the scripts nor tell them what to write for Zulu. Oseransky said Zulu was always complaining about his role, but he never Jack mistreat him. Zulu would criticize Jack all the time, but he never saw Jack do anything to bother him. Some H5O fans a few years ago spoke to Liza Chong, Zulu's agent and she said that Zulu wanted to leave the show and was planning to do so prior to this incident. |
