I think it's partially that...and there's just not as much hype with this election as there was in 2008.

Hell no. Ratings for the show were just fine until the show started going all left-wing wacko. Many people who were outraged over Tina Fey making fun of Sarah Palin vowed never to watch the show ever again.

i didn't bother watching it because I'm already way past burnt-out with all the politcal nonsense coverage

- i understand that they are trying to capitalize on the election and get some attention based on the success of past political parodies, but some political characters are just better targets than others - and like it or not Tina Fey was funny as Palin (Palin even appeared on the show and it did get her a LOT more attention than she would have gotten otherwise) - SNL's current Obama and Romney are pretty tame and boring by comparison.

I seriously doubt it's that, as there were just as many people who couldn't wait to see the show skewer a person who clearly has no business belonging in politics. Crazy sells. But this election year, there's no standout, and I think people are just burned out on politics and would rather watch other shows to escape it.
