Well, IMO, there's no hung verdict; it was a fun entertaining show and Harry's Mel Torme fetish was at hoot.

Why wasn't it cancelled two years earlier? This show got more horrible as it went along.

This was about the time NBC was in serious panic mode. Around Spring '91, NC had announced they were done. Then Cosby and Cheers were talking about final seasons, and rumors were swirling about Johnny Carson. So in desperation mode, they made an offer to the producers to bring it back for one more year. The undoing of finale set-ups lead to a lot of jumbled characters and and directionless scripts.
Then they were offered a season 10 in syndication but finally said enough was enough. |

Prepare yourself, Hauser. You'll be throwing a gavel at the tv by the time you reach the finale.

I do remember really not liking the finale of the series. So much so, I never watched the finale again.

Overall, not as bad as you made it out to be, but Night Court's finale certainly wasn't of the calibre of the Cheers finale. |

I wished they had given Bull a better send off. Why was he abducted by aliens?

Encore Classic aired the second part of the series finale and now that I've had a chance like you to "relive it", I do get a sense of why most fans didn't like it. It seems like Christine was the only character who really got some sense of "closure". The rest was just a bunch of half-baked ideas (such as Harry's storyline), none of which were remotely funny. It's as if the writers and producers totally and completely didn't give a crap anymore.
I don't at all understand the point of Dan's storyline, which was about his "nightmare" (w/ "Judge Roz"and Christine defending him) involving all of his past girlfriends/flings. Was it suppose to teach Dan once and for all that he has to be more "respectful" towards women? The producers had done so much to ruin Dan's character over final two seasons, that it seems rather "fitting" that the final shot of him is of Dan telling Harry that is going to follow Christine (even though it wasn't built up that way). And I find it funny that Bull decides to go off to "Jupiter" w/ those to elderly "aliens", while conveniently forgetting his new wife. It's as if, they no longer knew what to do w/ his character so they had to absurdly pull something out of their rears that made absolutely no logical sense (even for a show like Night Court). |

Bull taking off like that and forgetting his wife? Leaving her all alone? Worst finale ever.
