Pardon me if this has been asked before:
http://www.bonethefish.com/viewtopics.php?172 *When Charlotte Rae left and was replaced by Cloris Leachman as Mrs. Garrett's sister. *When Blair and Jo graduated from Eastland, yet the producers in order to contrive a way to keep the four main girls together, had them working at Edna's Edibles. *When in a fairly desperate attempt to boost ratings, Edna's Edibles was burned down and replaced by Over Our Heads. *When all of these new characters were added (the producers retooled the show after the first season because they felt that there were too many characters to keep track of) like George Clooney's handyman character, Andy, Pippa, and of course Beverly Ann when Mrs. Garrett left. |

The introduction of Pippa was probably the final nail in the coffin because even though I didn't care for George Clooney's character I liked those episodes, plus I liked Beverly Ann and Andy was fine. The introduction of Pippa and the content of those episodes just made me realize there really wasn't a point for the girls to be living together anymore.

Many say the introduction of Pippa didn't make a lot of sense, but perhaps the writers were looking ahead to the potential spin-off that would have had Blair as Headmistress of Eastland. Pippa would have likely had a major role in that spin-off.

I felt it jumped the shark and became a little more bland when the producers decided to tame Beverly Ann's character - during "A boy about the House". Andy moving into the house was also unnecessary. She gave the show lots of new life at the beginning of season 8, not sure the reasoning of taming her - but i think it was a bad decision.
The first half of season 8 is my favourite from the run. |

When Edna's Edibles burned down. The whole tone of the show changed in that 7th season-opener. It went from being a funny, live-on-tape show like "All in the Family" or "Three's Company" to a bland '80s sitcom with lots of transitional background music like "Who's the Boss" or "Charles in Charge".
